Elmhurst Epicureans, Our Ships Have Come In!

Add two more specialty shops to our growing list for fabulous local food.

Elmhurst, our culinary ships are sailing in so fast I can’t keep track of all our new food stores, specialty shops and bakeries.

In the past year we have had new additions such as (105 S. York St.), (105 S. York), Good Earth (555 S. York), Rosalia’s Deli (241 N. York) and Heavenly Cupcakes (162 N. York). Add these to our old favorites like (116 W. Park Ave.) and this town is turning into an epicurean delight.

Well, we have two more places to add to our list. Elmhurst is finally getting a new bakery. Bleeding Heart Bakery, will be opening at 116 S. York in the next few weeks. Described on its web site as "local, sustainable, punk rock pastry," the designer cakes and cupcakes appear to have an avant-garde theme loaded with flashy colors and edgy designs.

There is still more to come. One of my most trusted sources informed me that a new Mariano’s Fresh Market is opening up on York Road in Elmhurst, and Mariano's owner, Nina Mariano, confirmed the good news with me this week. Browse the Web site for a full list of their departments, including produce, meat/seafood, specialty foods, pharmacy and more. We will be the third location after Vernon Hills and Arlington Heights, and according to some customer reviews on Yelp, we are in for a treat.

One customer, listed under "best shopping experiences," gushes over the market.

“Mariano's is awesome. From the fresh-squeezed orange juice, cafe, fried dough, gelato bar, samples and fresh products, it makes grocery shopping fun!”

Elmhurst Patch will have much more on this new market, so stay tuned.

I am looking forward to these new places opening up in Elmhurst. There is something special about being able to shop locally to produce lovely meals at home. Elmhurst is such a wonderful city to enjoy on foot or on bike.  We are so lucky to be able to go such a short distance to sample these culinary delights!
