17-year-old Charged With DUI After Allegedly Driving Vehicle Through Home
He is facing DUI and other charges, police said.
Elmhurst police have charged a 17-year-old with DUI after he allegedly drove through the living room wall of a house on South Linden Tuesday night.
- leaving the scene of an accident (two counts)
- improper lane use
- failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident
Additional charges are pending, police Chief Michael Ruth said in a statement.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the front bumper from a Volvo with the license plate in the street, according to the statement. After fleeing the home on Linden, the vehicle was driven onto the parkway at 142 Poplar and across the front lawns at 142 and 138 Poplar. It then struck a fence at 138 Poplar and was parked in a nearby driveway.

The vehicle's engine was smoking and the airbags had been deployed when police arrived, according to the statement.
When police went to the home of the registered owner, police heard a struggle inside and witnessed the alleged driver in a physical altercation with his mother. They learned he was trying to prevent his mother from opening the door for police.

He was taken into custody, and the incident remains under investigation.
