Elmhurst Man Arrested For Allegedly Pretending To Be Chicago Cop

The Elmhurst man allegedly flashed a police captain's badge and a holstered handgun.

An Elmhurst man was jailed for allegedly trying to pass himself off as a Chicago police captain to a neighbor.

Gary Fleming, 52, of 478 S. Hampshire Ave. was charged with impersonating a police officer.

A neighbor told the law he ran into Fleming on the sidewalk about 5 p.m. Sunday and "Gary pulled out a police captain's badge, clearly identified himself as a Chicago police officer and proceeded to display a black handgun inside a holster under his jacket," police said.

Officers headed over to Fleming's home to speak with him and he "admitted to displaying the badge and revolver," according to police, who said they "confirmed through Chicago PD he was never employed by them."

Fleming was also charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the DuPage County jail.
