ReplyI agree - Diane Gutenkauf came to my door. I quizzed her on school funding, TIF issues, and infrastructure... she is clearly thoughtful and educated about all of these issues. I haven't totally made up my mind about who to vote for, but I appreciated Diane reaching out to voters, and she clearly wants what is best for Elmhurst.

On the article UPDATE: Amid Difficult Budget Realities, District 205 Parents Launch Petition to Fight New School Start Times

ReplySorry Patch you have an error in your math there... The proposed cut IS .3% NOT 3%. $350k of $100m annual budget = .0035 or .3% (so that is, LESS than 1% to clarify)

On the article UPDATE: Idea of Adjusting to a New School Start Time Next Year Has Some Parents on Edge

ReplyThank you, KimK. I don't see how, as a working parent, I'm being called selfish for asking how the district can make decisions that greatly affect some parents more than others. I don't have a choice about my working hours. My job is not a 'hobby'. It is a job - I earn a living to provide housing, food, clothing, and hopefully, a good education and start in life for my kids. Instead of pitting parent against parent, should we all be asking, "why are they always telling us, "sorry, we have noooo choice except to cut, cut, cut!" It's BS I tell you - this is about funds being mismanaged, an elected Board who hasn't taken a class in public fund accounting, and lack of accountability. $300k, what they would save with this change, is .3% of the budget (less than 1%).

ReplyThis completely disenfranchises all families who have 2 working parents... what employer is going to say, "sure, you can come in at 10 a.m.!" given the fact that most commutes in the Chicago metro region are 45 min. - hour. And no, I highly doubt Rec Station will be able to accomodate the large influx of kids of working parents... this is a ridiculous solution to save $300k from a $104m annual budget [btw, it would be helpful for parents to be more educated on what the range of options and constraints were facing the budget if District 205 would update the Budget information on its website past 2010... just a thought.]

On the article All Systems Go: Federal Agencies Sign Off on Elgin-O'Hare Western Access Project

ReplySo... I thought the plan originally was to build a western terminal at O'Hare? Apparently, this just widens some roads and causes an even larger congestion nightmare along a "widened" York Rd. - whether that be north or south - so you can go around to the eastern side of O'Hare. You can do that now - Thorndale to York to Touhy- how does this solve anything?

Richjoe and John- it is true you do not have all the facts. But there were enough incidents,, enough runners avoiding the Path as a result that it is worth raising awareness and looking into it. I applaud the EPD for being responsive and taking this seriously. Elmhurst is a community we want to feel safe in- to raise families, take a jog in the morning, walk to dinner at night. Kudos to the Police.
