ReplyThe threshold for forfeiture needs to be substantially raised. As it stands it seems like cruel and unusual punishment for minor traffic violations.

ReplyIt is such a different world than I grew up in. I remember corner grocery stores and neighborhood taverns. Everybody would walk to them. In our highly mobile and spread out society there is a much greater risk of obtaining a DUI. Go to a wedding, a sporting event, a picnic, or any other social event and it is not to difficult to find many decent and hardworking people who might meet the legal threshold for a DUI. There is also little flexibility in the law. 15 mph down a side street is the same as 70 mph down the highway. Sitting in your car listening to the radio in your own driveway allows for a Driving (keyword) under the influence charge.. I want to see the public protected from the consequences of impaired drivers but there is no simple solution. Installed technology that inhibits a person from driving might be one approach.

ReplyThe obvious defects in street design should be addressed proactively and not after the fact. Do we really do this?

Licenses can be suspended for a host of reasons unrelated to any crime such as emissions. You might not even be aware of a suspension if you recently moved..
More nuance is needed in the law. Just like red light cameras. It is often about the revenue than concern for public welfare.
