Thanks, G. I wouldn't approach it any other way, at least not in print.

Thanks, Susan. My ex-wife appreciated the humor, and she's pretty funny, too. I've done something on house-cleaning on my Facebook page, and perhaps I'll post it here in a week or so. But it's more about getting the place organized and getting things put away for a female visitor.

Pints is the best. It's the only beer garden with televisions (3 HDTVs) and a retractable awning in case there's too much sun or in case it starts raining.

ReplyHey Kathryn,
Yes, that's me. Funny you should mention that BMX course. That was right behind my house. It took up three lots If I recall and was primarily used for minibikes I originally had a couple lines in there about the bike course, but I ended up taking it out.
And LOL at my mom yelling out the front door. "Daaay-vid!" -

ReplyMy vote is not for an intersection, but for the Jewel parking lot entrance from Butterfield Rd. Everything about that area is dangerous: Cars crossing Butterfield to travel East, cars backed up on Butterfield as cars enter, the quick left some cars take when entering the parking lot, and lastly, the scene across Butterfield with cars turning westbound from McDonald on to Butterfield.
Despite my sketchy description of this, people who live around there must know what I'm talking about.

ReplyI agree with (the other) Dave that there is nothing wrong with questioning how the police are using their resources. It's the assumptions that the police aren't doing the right job or the assumed knowledge of how the police are concentrating on the areas of need. The above comment from Doremus is a perfect example: "obviously those same officers are off duty during these brazen day light robberies". Is it obvious? Just how many officers are working each shift Doremus, since you "obviously" have the insight on police scheduling.
That being said, it's an excellent point, Doremus, that we've been lucky so far that there are no reported injuries. I cringe to think about that babysitter (a teen?) and the kids she's watching stumbling upon a burglary in progress. And I, too, would like to know if the police are shifting their focus, as Doremus points out. Karen says the police chief states that "there is always an increase in burglary during the holiday season".
I'm sure this is true, but doesn't it seem like there is more going on this year than in the past? And have the past increases resulted in more burglaries during the day? If I'm correct, then I think the police should address this issue and tell the community what it being done. People are obviously scared and worried.

I didn't see the accident, but saw where it took place. That's a horrible intersection. You shouldn't be allowed to turn north on to York from Van Buren, or from the Jewel parking lot.
That whole corner around the Jewel parking lot is awful, and at least one street light should be put in. The Butterfield Rd. side is also bad, and includes turns into Jewel, McDonald's and Burger King, which are all accidents waiting to happen.
