Tires Punctured on Dozens of Vehicles in Elmhurst

Damage occurred sometime during a two-week period, police said.

Clarification: A police report initially listed the address of Jim's Towing in conjunction with the vandalism, but on followup it was learned the lot is owned by the city of Elmhurst and is adjacent to Jim's Towing. Dozens of police-impounded vehicles were found with their tires slashed Monday. The damage occurred while the vehicles were parked in a city of Elmhurst-owned impound lot on the 500 block of South Route 83 between noon Nov. 12 and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 26, police said. The vehicles, more than 30 in all, had been impounded following arrests and were being held for possible forfeiture by Elmhurst police. The tires all had small punctures in the sidewalls, possibly made by an ice pick, police said.
