New year brings arrests for DUI, aggravated battery.
Aggravated Battery Eugene T. Leonard, 22, 211 S. Kenilworth, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery after he allegedly beat up a cab driver at 1:09 a.m. Dec. 31. Police found the victim sitting on the ground on Marion Parkway, between Palmer Drive and Kenilworth, "bleeding heavily from the face." Leonard had fled the area but was soon apprehended. The cab driver told police he had asked Leonard not to smoke in his cab, and Leonard responded by striking the driver numerous times in the face with his fist. Leonard also was charged with theft of services and disorderly conduct. He was taken to DuPage County Jail. Battery A man was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital after police pulled over a vehicle for speeding at 10:13 a.m. Aug. 15 at 260 N. York Road. The driver said she was taking the man to the hospital, and police called medics to check on the offender. When the medic asked the man what was bothering him, he slammed the vehicle door on the medic, striking his right shoulder and back. When police attempted to place him in custody, he became combative. Police are expected file charges for battery, aggravated assault and resisting a peace officer upon his release from the hospital.
