Elmhurst Police Arrest Melrose Park Man for Breaking into Cars

Police reported multiple vehicle burglaries were discovered last weekend.

An observant resident was able to identify a man who allegedly broke into several cars in Elmhurst on May 5. Ronnie Levandowski, 28, 3005 Alta St., Melrose Park, was arrested and charged with felony burglary to a motor vehicle and felony attempted burglary to a motor vehicle after police say he was seen pulling on handles of parked cars on the 600 block of North Oaklawn at 11:14 p.m. May 5. Police received a call from a resident who was woken up by his dog barking at something outside. The witness saw a red Ford Mustang traveling northbound on Oaklawn with the headlights off. It stopped and a man got out and began pulling on the door handles of two vehicles parked in a driveway. Police located the vehicle, and the witness identified …

Multiple Burglaries Discovered Within a Short Distance and in a Short Time Period

North Larch, North Walnut and Addison streets targeted over the past few days.

Police are looking into burglaries and attempted burglary in Elmhurst between Thursday, Jan. 17, and Saturday, Jan. 19, and all in the same area of town. The 400 block of North Larch Street was a focal point of activity on Thursday, Jan. 17. Police said that while they were investigating a garage burglary on the street, they were led to a neighboring house that was broken into. And, a vehicle on the block was burglarized later that night. Sometime between 7:45 and 10:40 p.m. Jan. 17, someone broke into a garage and shed on the 400 block of North Larch. The victim returned home and saw a man in his neighbor's back yard. The suspect ran to a dark pickup truck, entered the passenger door, and the vehicle fled the area in an unknown direction…

Elmhurst Police Report Several Vehicle Burglaries June 18 and 19

Attempted burglary at Bryan Middle School and identity theft also reported.

Someone broke into a vehicle parked in the lot at Extended Stay America, 550 W. Grand, between 10 p.m. June 17 and 6:15 a.m. June 18. The victim said his passenger cargo door was partially open and the door lock was damaged but nothing appeared to be missing. Someone broke into a work van parked at Chicago Communications, 200 W. Spangler, between 6:30 p.m. June 15 and 7 a.m. June 18. The front and rear passenger windows were shattered, the rear passenger door was ajar and the lock to the back door had been punched out. The victim said nothing appeared to be missing from the van. Someone broke into a vehicle parked near the entrance of Spring Hill Suites, 410 W. A Home and Several Cars Broken Into This Week

Residential Burglary Someone used a pry tool to force open the front door of a home on the 700 block of South Hillside. The homeowner reported at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 5 the front door was found open and most of the rooms had been rifled through, with items strewn on the floor. The suspect possibly exited through the rear sliding-glass door, police said. The homeowner had not determined what, if anything, was missing at the time of the report. Cars Broken Into Someone broke the front driver-side window of a vehicle parked on the 600 block of North Indiana at about 7:20 a.m. Dec. 31 and removed a GPS unit worth $200. Thieves Hit Elmhurst in All Sorts of Ways

Two arrests made for retail theft, a number of vehicle burglaries reported.

A number of vehicle burglaries have been reported in Elmhurst over the past couple of weeks. Residents are reminded to keep their cars locked and do not leave anything of value inside. A Coach wallet, credit cards, drivers license and $300 were reported stolen from a 2009 Infiniti parked in the 200 block of North York Road between 1:45 and 2:05 p.m. on Nov. 28. Police said the driver’s side window was broken, causing $200 damage. A man staying at Extended Stay America, 550 W. Grand Ave., told police he was sleeping when he heard a noise at 4:43 a.m. Dec. 5. When he looked outside, he saw a man in the bed of his truck attempting to pry open the tool box. Missing from the truck was a GPS unit and a leaf blower. The victim also had another …

I agree that greed, selfishness and a lack of concern for others is rampant in our society, and not just in the criminal population. Stiffer penalties work as a means to keep criminals off the street longer. As for discouraging criminals, I think the jails are full of people who never thought they would get caught. I don't see a lot of profit-risk analysis among the criminal class.   more ›
