A resident of the 900 block of Hawthorne came into the police station at 10:15 a.m. March 2 and said a man had followed him in his vehicle when he left his residence. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the subject was being watched by a private investigator hired by his ex-wife. A Stihl brick-cutting saw worth $500 was taken out of the trunk of a Toyota Corolla while the victim was doing brick work on a home on the 200 block of East Madison between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. March 4. Police discussions with suspects may have thwarted a theft in City Centre.
Elmhurst police were instrumental in helping identify several men who reportedly stole a diamond engagement ring from a jewelry store in Niles. At 1:24 p.m. Jan. 3, police received a report that several men were acting suspicious and were in and out of jewelry stores in downtown Elmhurst, including Cottage Hill Diamonds at 125 N. York. An Elmhurst officer spoke to the men, who said they were shopping for gifts for their wives, police said. The suspects then got into a black Dodge Charger that had two additional suspects inside, and they left the area.
