Woman Hires Private Eye to Follow Her Ex-Husband, Employee Steals From Boss and is Promptly Fired

A resident of the 900 block of Hawthorne came into the police station at 10:15 a.m. March 2 and said a man had followed him in his vehicle when he left his residence. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the subject was being watched by a private investigator hired by his ex-wife. A Stihl brick-cutting saw worth $500 was taken out of the trunk of a Toyota Corolla while the victim was doing brick work on a home on the 200 block of East Madison between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. March 4. A police officer interviewed all the victim's employees and searched all of their vehicles, and he found the saw in the trunk of a vehicle belonging to an employee. GA, Bensenville, was arrested and charged with retail theft after police said he stole several packages of earrings totaling $36.32 from Kohl's, 303 Route 83, at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 8. He was released on I-bond. A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged with retail theft after police say he removed a leather wallet worth $30 from Kohl's, 303 S. Arrests for cannabis, shooting out windows, theft and more were recorded on Valentine's Day, Thursday.

Fortunately, there were no massacres on Valentine's Day this year, but Elmhurst police were kept busy nonetheless. Here is a listing of arrests made on Thursday, Feb. 14. Veronica Guma, 22, 2413 George St., Franklin Park, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after police pulled over her tan Hyundai Sonata for improper lane use at Schiller and Willow at 2:38 a.m. Feb. 14. She was released on bond. Maxtin Cambra-Munoz, 19, 277 Fair, Elmhurst, and Jackson Lucero, 20, 416 S. Generator Stolen from Mariano's Construction Site

A Coleman 1800 Power Mate generator worth $700 was stolen from the Mariano's Fresh Market construction site, 678 N. York Road, between 5:30 p.m. Jan. 30 and 6:30 a.m. Jan. 31. Someone tried to break into Fitz's Spare Keys, 119 N. York, between 1 and 10 a.m. Jan. 31. The unknown offender attempted to gain entry by forcing a piece of metal into a door's locking mechanism. Police got a call for a retail theft at Jewel-Osco, 153 Schiller, at 2:47 p.m. Jan. 30. The complainant said a man stole eight packages of nasal strips and left the store without paying. Elmhurst Police Follow Suspected Jewelry Thieves from Elmhurst to Niles

Police discussions with suspects may have thwarted a theft in City Centre.

Elmhurst police were instrumental in helping identify several men who reportedly stole a diamond engagement ring from a jewelry store in Niles. At 1:24 p.m. Jan. 3, police received a report that several men were acting suspicious and were in and out of jewelry stores in downtown Elmhurst, including Cottage Hill Diamonds at 125 N. York. An Elmhurst officer spoke to the men, who said they were shopping for gifts for their wives, police said. The suspects then got into a black Dodge Charger that had two additional suspects inside, and they left the area. The responding officer followed the suspects into Niles and contacted the Niles police. Elmhurst officers later found out from Niles police that the suspects had been viewed on security …

Someone used a counterfeit $50 for a purchase at McDonald's, 190 E. Butterfield Road, at 2:07 p.m. Jan. 7. Police have a description of the suspect, who reportedly left the scene in a Nissan Sentra. A brown leather Tous bi-fold wallet worth $200 was taken from a vehicle parked on the 400 block of West Butterfield Dec. 31. The victim returned to his vehicle after work at 8:27 p.m. and discovered the front passenger window had been smashed. The walled contained debit cards and a $2 bill. Someone scratched obscenities into a gray trailer belonging to a Boy Scout Troop. The trailer was parked in a lot at Christ United Methodist Church, 920 S. Swain, between 2 p.m. Dec. 28 and 2:14 p.m. Dec. 31. Damage is estaimated at $400. Wheaton Man Attempts Escape After Arrest for Retail Theft in Elmhurst

Robert Q. Gorman, 23, 703 W. Liberty, Wheaton, was arrested and charged with retail theft after he allegedly took items from a store on the 200 block of South Route 83 at 7:43 p.m. Dec. 29. Police did not specify what was taken. As officers placed him into the police car, he attempted to escape on foot, police said. He was apprehended a short time later and charged with escape (a felony) and resisting a peace officer, and obstructing identification. He was taken to DuPage County Jail and held on $5,000 bond.
