A GPS worth $200 and a leather wallet containing a drivers license, credit cards and $200 was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on the 700 block of South Euclid between 11 p.m. May 8 and 5 a.m. May 9. Someone also entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on the 800 block of South Euclid during the same time period. Nothing appeared to be missing, but the glove box was rifled through and the door was ajar. A wallet that had been stolen from another vehicle was found in the street. While investigating these burglaries, police discovered vehicles on the 900 and 700 blocks of South Euclid also were tampered with. NAPERVILLE A woman who moved out of an apartment in the 200 block of East Bailey Road two months ago returned to the apartment May 15 and asked the property manager if she could get her belongings. She was told by the property manager that the apartment was cleaned out and she was not allowed to enter, police said. A resident then saw the woman scale the balconies to get to her old apartment on the third floor, but she was not able to gain entry, police said. CLARENDON HILLS An apartment tenant on the 200 block of North Richmond Avenue wrote in magic marker on his door that "any trespassers will be shot," according to a police report. Police said he had a registration sticker on his vehicle that did not match his car. He was released on bond. Joseph M. Homeowners reported finding blood on the porch.
An iguana may have fought the person who stole it from its home on the 500 block of West Alexander Boulevard last week, according to a report from Elmhurst police. The animal was reportedly stolen between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday, April 24, the owners told police. They said the 3 1/2-foot iguana sunbathes in the front window of the home from time to time, and they believe someone entered their unlocked front door and stole it. The owners searched the house, but it was nowhere to be found. But they did find blood droplets on the porch floor and on envelopes in their mailbox, according to the report. They said they believe the thief may have been bitten or clawed by the iguana as he or she was taking it from the home.

An apartment on the 100 block of Virginia was broken into between 3 p.m. April 22 and 11:30 a.m. April 23. Taken was an Xbox game, Kinect sensor and a video game worth a total of $530. Estimated damage to the door is $50. Cory Martin, 25, 575 Thornhill Drive, Carol Stream, was arrested and charged with retail theft after he allegedly took a bottle of cologne worth $37 from Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, at 8 p.m. April 16. The account now has a negative balance of $8,946.75 and has been frozen by Chase. A resident told police at 7:48 p.m. April 2 that when her accountant attempted to file her federal taxes, a return already had been filed in her name. Someone purchased a Kia Optima from Ed Napleton Kia, 727 W. Grand Ave., using a fraudulent identity. The incident was reported at 10:44 a.m. April 3. Fifth Ward Candidate Bob Kolb told police someone stole hundreds of dollars worth of his campaign signs.
About 38 political signs were stolen between March 11 and March 29, Elmhurst police reported. The theft was reported at 3:14 p.m. March 29. The victim told police that all of the signs were posted on private property. Loss is estimated at $300. Fifth Ward candidate Bob Kolb in his blog on Elmhurst Patch this week said he is the victim. He said the signs were taken from "my own front yard to Mack's Golden Pheasant. There are simply too many locations ... to list each." The city didn't take them down, he said. Someone wrote "I love you so much, Your admirer" and other terms of endearment in pink lipstick on a vehicle parked on the 500 block of East St. Charles Road between 2 and 11:30 p.m. March 24. A house on the 900 block of Chatham was egged at about 12:05 a.m. March 10. The victim's son said he received a strange text message from an unknown person claiming to be his friend just before the incident. The texter denied involvement but was being uncooperative, police said. A man about 30 years old, with red hair, entered Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, carrying a plastic bag at 12:22 p.m. March 19. He placed two ribeye steaks and a box of shrimp worth $30.95 into the bag, then headed out the door without paying. As he was leaving, a loss prevention officer tried to stop him and they got into a confrontation, police said. The offender pushed his way out the door, leaving the food behind. A resident of the 400 block of Atwater Avenue paid a down-payment of $3,000 in cash to a suspect allegedly employed by 4 Seasons Painting and Remodeling to have her kitchen remodeled. The contract, which was for $5,500, was signed last May but no work was ever performed on her kitchen. Numerous attempts to contact the suspect by phone and email have been unsuccessful, police said. A resident of the 200 block of North West Avenue believes her ex-boyfriend stole $2,275 she had in an envelope under her nightstand between March 4 and 6. She asked him to leave on March 5, dropped him off at the train station on March 6 and does not know where he is. The report was filed on March 9.
