Elmhurst Police Reports Reveal So Many Ways to Steal

Identity theft, retail theft, vehicle burglary and scams; residents must stay alert to avoid becoming a victim.

Retail Theft Arrest Lachonda Henderson, 36, 1683 Island View Court, Hoffman Estates, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she allegedly took clothing off a rack at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, left the store without paying, then returned the items for store credit. She also was found to have a warrant out of Cook County for violation of probation. She was taken to DuPage County Jail. Identity Theft A suspect in a white Cadillac Eldorado attempted to cash forged checks from a Harris Bank checking account at several different branch locations around 3:30 p.m. May 23. The owner of the checking account was contacted by a representative of Harris, who said the suspect was attempting to cash a check for $3,200. The check was denied and …

Phone Held Hostage by Menacing Thief and Bar Patron Makes a Death Threat

Items reported stolen include cash, tools, cell phone and an $8,000, 53-foot trailer.

Threats Made A man between 30 and 35 years old, about 5-foot-4, 160 pounds with short black hair and a thin mustache threatened an employee of a bar on the 600 block of West Lake Street at 12:52 p.m. May 17. The suspect came into the bar and was making small talk with the waitresses. He was asked to leave if he wasn't going to order anything. He left, then came back with a bouquet of flowers he said was for the "waitress with the short blonde hair." He was told no one works there with short blonde hair and he was asked again to leave. The suspect said "How would you like it if I came back and murdered you?" He left in a silver car. If he returns, he will be issued a no-trespass order. Pitbull Charges Poodle on Gladys Avenue; Owner Cited

Police also report incidents of theft and property damage.

Dog at Large A woman who lives on the 600 block of West Gladys Avenue in Elmhurst was cited for having a dog at large at 10:52 p.m. May 5. A man told police he was walking his leashed, 25-pound poodle when the woman's 75-pound pitbull charged at them. The man said this was the third time he has called the police about his neighbor's dog being on the loose. Theft Someone forced a lock off of a storage locker at an apartment complex on Elm Creek Lane between 4 p.m. May 3 and 7 a.m. May 7 and removed personal property worth $250. A Carhart 3.7 horsepower power washer worth $300 was stolen from a driveway on the 700 block of South Hawthorne between 1:30 and 1:40 p.m. May 8.
