It's unfortunate that this hotel has such a bad reputation. My daughter works there at the waterpark and has had a very positive experience. Her supervisor is kind and professional, she works with alot of great kids--mainly college kids working their way through school and high school kids. I have consistently asked her time and time again if she has encountered anything bad or shady, but she has…   more ›

I believe in reasonable debate and logic. We need our local civic leaders to run our town efficiently, attract new businesses, and keep residents safe. It's silly for a small suburb to try and solve the age old ills of society with meaningless symbolic gestures, let alone ones that waste valuable resources. Attract businesses, keep residents safe, keep clean water flowing, the sewers running, and…   more ›

Sex Trafficking Not a Victimless Crime

Elmhurst Police Chief Steve Neubauer explains why stings are conducted in town.

To hear Brenda Myers-Powell's melodic voice or see her contagious smile, you wouldn't know she is a sex abuse survivor and victim of the sex trade. Throughout her 25 years as a prostitute, Myers-Powell has been beaten by johns and pimps alike. She’s been shot five times. She’s been stabbed 13 times. On her last day as a prostitute, she was beaten by a john in his car, she told an audience at Elmhurst Public Library last week. When she tried to escape, her clothing got caught and she was dragged six blocks alongside the black Mercedes of the man who paid to have sex with her. In the emergency room of a county hospital, a police officer recognized her.  “Oh, her?” he said to the nurse, behind a flimsy closed curtain. “She’s a hooker. She …

Lynn, I believe that those in leadership positions need to address this. In politics it seems like it is always "going along to get along. Stepping on toes is never going to help you further climb into even higher positions of power. What we end up with is an endless stream of politicians who are more concerned about self interest and not the public who they profess to care for. We need true …   more ›

Whether intended or not, the unintended consequences still lead to a very negative conclusion and create a bad impression of this town. The Police "stings", which bait outsiders who would have never ventured into town, are an example. I would guess that any hotel that is so conveniently located and relatively affordable would have a small percentage of this type of activity. It would pretty much …   more ›
