IC High School Gets Approval to Begin Installation of Synthetic Turf at Plunkett Field

Construction set to begin in April as fund-raising efforts continue.

Immaculate Conception High School received approval from the Diocese of Joliet to begin the first phase of a multi-phased renovation project to Plunkett Field, at West Avenue and Utley in Elmhurst.  The renovations will start in April and are scheduled for completion in time for the 2013 Knights fall sports season. As a parish high school, IC is subject to the policies of the Diocese of Joliet, which state that parish schools need to have 100 percent of the funding goal in pledged support, along with 80 percent of the actual cash in hand, to begin a capital project like this.  IC will continue its fund-raising efforts to support future phases of the Plunkett Field project after Phase One construction loans (about $400,000) can be covered. …

Lady Knights Softball Team Win SCC Conference Crossover 8-1 at Plunkett Park

Immaculate Conception High School now 3-4 (1-0 in Conference)

Editor's Note: Thank you to coach Dominic Conenna for submitting this recap. Immaculate Conception Lady Knights Varsity Softball Team opened Suburban Christian Conference play as they hosted St. Edward in a Crossover game Friday, March 20.  In the bottom of the first inning, Jocelyn Sanchez's 2-RBI single gave IC an early 2-0 lead.  The Knights never looked back as they pounded out 14 hits in the 8-1 victory over St. Edward.  Maria Kieliszewski (2-for-2, sac, double, RBI),  Katelyn Conenna (2-for-3, sac, double, 2-RBI), Jenn Clementi (2-for-3, RBI),  Gabby Curran (2-for-4, triple) and Jessica Conenna (2-for-4, double, RBI) contributed to the Knights attack.    Jessica  Conenna (2-3) got the start for IC scattering 6 hits and striking out …

Residents Hear Gunfire Near Plunkett Park

Shotgun shells found.

A resident near Monterey and Thomas streets reported that he heard shots fired near his home in the area of Plunkett Park at 10 p.m. July 14. He told police he heard popping sounds that sounded much louder than fireworks and more like gunfire. The man walked through the park on July 16 and found five rounds of red, 12-gauge shotgun shells. Neighbors in the area told police they also heard the shots. The shells were placed into evidence.
