School Board Candidate Explains the Now-moot Petition Challenge He and Fellow Candidate Faced

Darlene Heslop says she will pay all expenses incurred by the city of Elmhurst and District 205 related to her petition challenges in both races.

Darlene Heslop dropped her petition challenge against incument District 205 School Board candidate Jim Collins and newcomer Emily Bastedo Friday. Her only comment on the subject is that she will pay for all legal costs incurred in this challenge, as well as her challenge to Alderman Pat Wagner in his re-election campaign for the 7th Ward. The challenge against Wagner was dismissed Monday. But Collins shared some details of the now-moot school board candidate challenge Friday afternoon. "I think it's important that this get out in public so people understand the issues (Heslop) was raising," Collins said. Jim Collins and Emily Bastedo can continue their campaigns for District 205 Board.

The Elmhurst District 205 Electoral Board hearing scheduled for 4 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 11, has been canceled. The hearing originally was scheduled to hear petition challenges filed by Elmhurst resident Darlene Heslop against two School Board candidates, board President Jim Collins and newcomer Emily Bastedo. According to an announcement from the District 205 administrative office, the hearing was canceled because Heslop withdrew her objections to the nomination papers of both candidates. Yes she has the right to take action if there is merit to her claim. This was a meritless claim that the district spent thousands of dollars dealing with. If she is going to file these claims she should do all her homework first and make sure there is merit to them. She should reimburse the district for the money that was spent on this. Objections Filed Against Two Candidates Seeking Seats on Elmhurst District 205 School Board

Darlene Heslop has filed challenges to the nominating papers of School Board President Jim Collins and newcomer Emily Bastedo.

Elmhurst resident Darlene Heslop has filed objections against the nominating petitions of two Elmhurst District 205 School Board candidates. Those petition challenges will be heard by the district's Electoral Board during a special meeting at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the District 205 Administrative Building, 162 S. York Road. Heslop is objecting to the nominating papers filed by candidates Emily Bastedo and current School Board President Jim Collins. The agenda for the meeting on Friday is as follows: According to Illinois Election Code, the School District's Electoral Board would be composed of the board president (Collins), board Secretary Shannon Ebner and the longest-serving member of the board, Susan DeRonne. Alderman Mark Mulliner Recuses Himself From City's Electoral Board

Electoral Board hearing is scheduled for Monday to address a petition challenge in the 7th Ward race.

Elmhurst mayoral candidate and 7th Ward Alderman Mark Mulliner has recused himself from participating in an Electoral Board Hearing scheduled for Monday, Jan. 7. The hearing was called because Elmhurst resident Darlene Heslop is challenging the nominating petitions filed by 7th Ward incumbent candidate Pat Wagner. In accordance with Illinois state statute, the city's Electoral Board is composed of the mayor, in this case interim Mayor Scott Levin, City Clerk Patty Spencer and the longest-serving member of the City Council. Earlier: Elmhurst resident Darlene Heslop has filed an objection against the nominating petitions of Alderman Pat Wagner, the incumbent candidate running to retain his 7th Ward seat in the April 9 Consolidated Election.
