Pete DiCianni’s final meeting included levy approval and accolades.
Elmhurst City Council sent Mayor Pete DiCianni to the County Board Monday with actions that must have warmed the Elmhurst native’s heart: a reduced tax levy for 2012, a property agreement that will keep a business in the city, and a celebration of the York Boys Cross Country Team's 28th state championship. DiCianni won a place on the DuPage County Board earlier this month, where he will represent District 2. He will remain mayor until Dec. 3, when he will be sworn in as a county official. On that day, he will resign as mayor, and that night, the City Council will select an interim mayor, who will serve until April. On Monday, aldermen approved the Finance Committee’s report calling for a 1 percent reduction in the tax levy, or annual …

Residents to committee: 'Either you get this on the November ballot, or we will.'
Elmhurst City Council members will likely take up a discussion Monday, July 16, about whether a referendum on dual elected duty should be brought to voters in November or April. At issue is whether Elmhurst officials should be allowed to hold two elected offices simultaneously. The matter was brought to the attention of the Finance, Council Affairs and Administrative Services Committee months ago by committee member Mark Mulliner after Elmhurst Mayor Pete DiCianni declared he would retain his seat as mayor if elected to DuPage County Board in District 2. It has been a contentious issue for the mayor, with a vocal contingent of Elmhurst residents and some aldermen coming out in opposition to his serving two elected posts. The committee …

Five of the candidates were present, including Michael Loftus of Lisle, Zachary Wilson of Lombard, Elaine Zannis of Oak Brook, and Pete DiCianni and Rafael Rivadeneira of Elmhurst. Jim Long of Downers Grove, and Charles Mueller and Sean Noonan of Elmhurst were not in attendance. Early voting is underway for the primary election on March 20. DiCianni releases statement in response to state's attorney's opinion.
UPDATE Jan. 30, 4:45 p.m. Elmhurst Mayor Pete DiCianni has released a statement via email in response to DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin's opinion regarding the ability to serve on two government boards that have contractual obligations to one another: "While I have high respect for Robert Berlin, the DuPage County State's Attorney, I must admit I am not convinced of his recent opinion that, 'no member of a county board, during the term of office for which he or she is elected, may be appointed to, accept, or hold any[other] office…' There is not one court case that upholds his recent opinion. In fact, there are many mayors and municipal members that currently serve in dual capacities, both at the county and state levels, and are …

Mayor Pete DiCianni announced he is running for DuPage County Board; official announcement planned for Dec. 14 fund-raiser.
Elmhurst Mayor Pete DiCianni announced he plans to run for DuPage County Board in District 2. A number of residents received an invitation to DiCianni's "holiday fund-raiser," where he is scheduled to officially announce his candidacy. The announcement follows the recent decision of current DuPage County Board member and Elmhurst resident Jeff Redick to not seek re-election. DiCianni said Elmhurst needs to retain representation on the County Board. "Elmhurst has always had a seat at the table, which has enabled us to proactively deal with issues such as storm water, transportation, economic development, public safety and public health," he said in a letter to residents, which is written on the invitation to the fund-raiser. "It is integral…

John "Chip" Humes is running for the 46th House seat. He is endorsed by its current occupant Rep. Dennis Reboletti.
And they’re off! Campaigns for the 2012 elections in Illinois are underway in DuPage County. On Wednesday, Addison Republican John “Chip” Humes launched his campaign for House District 46, which is currently held by Rep. Dennis Reboletti, also an Addison Republican. Humes and several dozen supporters gathered at Casey’s Restaurant in Lombard Wednesday evening to kick off his campaign. In a short address to the crowd, Humes said pursuing policies that grow jobs and cause the state to become more business-friendly are his top priorities in these tough economic times. “We can’t continue to borrow money to pay our bills and pass that debt on to our children. We need common-sense solutions and to run things like a family does. If you can’t …
