Barry Pawels, 82, of Elmhurst, passed away Monday, April 15. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Holle. He is survived by sister, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary, 435 N. York Road, Elmhurst. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery. Velva (Val) Theresa Sahorak Petracek, 66, died on Thursday, April 11, at her home, under the care of hospice. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family, friends and her loyal dog, Otis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Petracek. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie T. Haljean-Hanssen; her son, Donald Petracek; and her grandchildren, Lexus and Taylor Hanssen, and Jacob Entwistle. Obituary: James Cunningham, 74, Elmhurst College Jazz Festival's 'Most Ardent Supporter'

Mr. Cunningham was dean of students emeritus at Elmhurst College, and an avid supporter of the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival. Visitation is Sunday, April 14.

Elmhurst College Dean of Students Emeritus James Cunningham, a longtime producer and emcee of the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival, died in his Elmhurst home on April 6. He was 74. During his 35-year career at Elmhurst College as dean of students and a professor of education, James Cunningham devoted himself to enriching the academic and cultural life of Elmhurst students. But his greatest legacy at Elmhurst may be one that has benefited not only Elmhurst College students, but students from all over the world and everyone who loves jazz. James Cunningham joined Elmhurst College in 1968 as associate dean of students and director of the College Union, now the Frick Center. Sisters Donna Reedy-Young, and Deborah Lynn (Reedy) Ahearn will remembered at a memorial Mass at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Immaculate Conception Church 132 Arthur St. in Elmhurst.  They are the daughters of the late Lawrence W. Reedy Jr. and Patricia (DeRome).   They were preceded in death by their sisters, Dorothy Reedy Schaub of Hayward, Wisc., and Denise Reedy.  They are survived by sisters Dee Duckworth of Ormond Beach, Fla., Diane DeRome of Sarasota, Fla., and Daneen Reedy of Port Orange, Fla.   Donna, beloved mother to Dillon, passed away in Ormond Beach while under the care of hospice on Dec. 25. John D. Jevitz, 83, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, April 4.  Mr. Jevitz is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kay; his children, Dr. John Jevitz of Elmhurst and Katy (Bill) Hagman of Granite Bay, Calif.; four grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. Mr. Jevitz was a sergeant in the Marines during the Korean War, and was formerly employed at Commonwealth Edison, Northern Illinois Gas, Borg-Warner and GE Plastics. York graduate worked for Ray Graham, PADS.

Daniel E. Tallman, 62, a 1968 York High School graduate, died on March 26 after a long illness. Tallman worked for the Ray Graham Association for People with Disabilities for 18 years, and was a shelter coordinator for DuPage PADS for four years. Death Notice: The Rev. Raymond Garbin, Senior Priest at Immaculate Conception Parish

He will lie in state Monday, followed by a funeral Mass on Tuesday in Joliet.

The Rev. Raymond P. Garbin, 76, who served as senior priest of Immaculate Conception Parish in Elmhurst, died Thursday, March 28. Rev. Garbin was ordained in 1963 at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet, and his first assignment was to St. Pius X Parish in Lombard. He served a number of churches throughout the 1970s and 1980s. His final assignment was at Immaculate Conception Parish in Elmhurst, where he served as parochial vicar in 1999, and later as senior priest in 2012. His body will lie in state from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 1, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at St. Joseph Church, 410 Jefferson St., Lockport.
