Nybo: Health Insurance Bill Was One of the 'Hardest Decisions' as State Rep

Retirees would be required to contribute to health insurance; the bill does not include teachers.

State Rep. Chris Nybo voted in favor of Senate Bill 1313 on Wednesday, which would require retirees who currently pay no premiums for their health insurance to make some contribution to these costs. “This was one of the hardest decisions I have made as a state representative, and it was not taken lightly,” the Elmhurst Republican said. “We’ve come to a point where we cannot ignore the rising health insurance costs.” The legislation puts in place a mechanism that allows the director of central management services to determine the state’s premium payments on behalf of retired state employees. It does not include teachers. The director also is allowed to structure state premium payments based on the ability of a retiree to pay, meaning …

Pending Legislation Would Reduce Prices at the Pump

Bills propose a gas tax holiday, gas tax cap and pipeline expansion.

State Rep. Chris Nybo (R-41st, Elmhurst) co-sponsored various pieces of legislation as part of a Motor Fuel Price Relief package to alleviate the escalating price of gas.  House Bill 6146, if passed, will enact a six-month state sales tax holiday for gas between July 1 and Dec. 31. In addition to the Illinois’ 19 cent per gallon Motor Fuel Tax, the state also charges the standard 6.25 percent sales tax on the purchase of gasoline. This legislation would suspend the state portion of that sales tax during the coming months. “Suspending the local sales tax is one way to save motorists money on the state level,” Nybo said. “Residents are driving to bordering communities in Indiana and Missouri to buy cheaper gas, which in return is a loss in …

Mr. Santini states that if the reduction was permanent then he would support it. If you go back and read the article you will see that while HB 6146 is a 6-month temporary "tax holiday," the second bill, HB 6147 (co-sponsored by Representative Nybo), "...proposes permanently capping the sales tax on fuel, only allowing the state to charge sales taxes on the first $2.50 of each gallon of gasoline…   more ›

Letter: Chris Nybo Asks Supporters to Welcome Dillard

The following is a letter to the editor from Chris Nybo following his defeat for State Senate District 24.

I would like to extend my congratulations to Senator Kirk Dillard in his victory this past Tuesday. On account of redistricting, we all faced difficult decisions and very unfortunate contests. While the race was spirited, it has been decided by the voters and they have decided on Senator Dillard.  I welcome him into the new communities that I represent and ask that all of the people who supported me, welcome him as enthusiastically as I am. It's time to make sure that our party brings a unified voice to Springfield to accomplish the serious business of getting our state back on track. I believe Senator Dillard will be a leader in that effort as my new State Senator. Sincerely, Chris Nybo Candidate for State Senate District 24

Letter: Chris Nybo Delivered on Promises He Made When He Was Sent to Springfield

Candidates in the 24th Senate race are clearly different from one another.

Unlike some primary elections where the candidates barely differ, the race between Chris Nybo and Kirk Dillard presents a clear contrast for voters. The race is easy to cast as energetic Nybo versus experienced Dillard or, as some have called it, conservative Nybo versus moderate Dillard. But the best comparison may be promises kept versus promises broken. Chris was sent to Springfield in 2010 with the charge from voters to clean things up. As a first-term legislator, he got the “Blagojevich billboards” outlawed, so that our tax dollars could not be used to put politicians’ names on our highways. Chris also cleared the legal roadblocks keeping school nurses from administering an EpiPen to children with severe food allergies. Like he said …

Nybo's record does indeed speak volumes....he missed out on key votes and turned against the Republican caucus. And not even done with his first term he has already put his sights on what's next rather than than strive to do what is right. What a shame as at one time he seemed to hold such promise and a future in Springfield and beyond.....   more ›

Letter: Electing Nybo is a Step in the Right Direction Toward a Financially Sound State

Nybo doesn't cater to special interest groups.

I am writing to endorse Chris Nybo as State Senator in the new 24th Senate District.  As a former village trustee and York Township committeeman, I understand how important it is to have a person with integrity, character, energy and intelligence as one of our elected state leaders. Chris is the right person to represent our district, a person who will take a stand and make difficult decisions.  When our district sent Chris as our representative in the Illinois House, he worked tirelessly for our interests and not those of special interest groups.  Chris stands for fiscal integrity, lower taxes and smaller yet responsive government.  Our state is facing an unprecedented list of critical problems that if left unchecked will negatively …

Letter: Dillard's Long Tenure is the Best Reason Not to Re-elect Him

Elmhurst resident believes term limits are in order, plans to vote for Nybo.

I live in the newly drawn 24th Senate District of Illinois in Elmhurst and must choose between Kirk Dillard and Chris Nybo in the upcoming primary. Kirk Dillard has been an Illinois State Senator for 18 years and has been part of the political system in Springfield for more than 25 years.  During that time, Illinois has spiraled deeper and deeper into debt and amassed a $120 billion pension obligation.  Politicians like Dillard have been diligent in awarding college scholarships to their friends and supporters and have stuck taxpayers with the bill. Dillard has a million-dollar state pension while our state’s vendors strangle on millions of dollars of unpaid invoices. Mr. Dillard, along with the likes of Mike Madigan and John Cullerton, …

After a Year Working with Residents, Nybo Offers an Update on His Legislative Advisory Council

More than 70 residents of the 41st District have served on the LAC, and here's some of what they've been working on.

Editor's Note: This information was submitted by state Rep. Chris Nybo's office. Prior to being sworn in to the Illinois House of Representatives last year, state Rep. Chris Nybo (R-41st, Lombard) formed a Legislative Advisory Council comprised of area residents representing all of the municipalities in the 41st House district. Their mission is to help assess the needs and desires in the district and to act as a research, deliberation and debate body that proposes legislation and offers input on issues coming before the house. Nybo credits the LAC for his successful legislative initiatives in 2011. To date, more than 70 residents of the district have served on the LAC from all of the communities in the district. The council is divided into…

Nybo Challenges Dillard on Term Limits

Latest candidate debate a prelude to a Feb. 12 forum in Elmhurst.

Term limits was one of the topics of the evening at a candidate forum in Wheaton Tuesday. State Rep. Chris Nybo (R-41st, Elmhurst) who is running in the newly drawn 24th Senate District, faced off against Sen. Kirk Dillard, the incumbent in the current 24th. Nybo is serving his first term in the state House, and Dillard has spend 17 years in the Senate. At a forum hosted by the Wheaton League of Women Voters and the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Nybo said one of his top priorities if elected will be to impose term limits on all members of the General Assembly, and he filed a bill Jan. 10 that would accomplish that. Nybo said in a press release that state representatives should serve no more than six terms, and senators should be limited to …

Too bad about NYbo, but I think Dillard has some redeeming qualities, I am not going to the Democrats for representation. Tell me more about the waste and corruption in the township level of government. We waste millions with some do nothings in that level of government. Why do we need them? I have heard how all they do is provide jobs and pensions for a select few and provide no benefits for the…   more ›

Nybo Files For Redrawn 24th District Senate Seat

Opts against re-election bid that would pit him against fellow GOP representative

Touting all 2,800 petition signatures came from door-to-door work across the 24th Senate District, State Rep. Chris Nybo announced Monday he had filed to run in the Republican primary for the redrawn seat. The 24th District includes all or parts of Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, Lisle, Lombard, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Western Springs, Westmont, Wheaton and Willowbrook. Nybo, an Elmhurst resident, blamed the Democrat-drawn district map for pitting Republican against one another, including in his current 41st House district. "In the 41st District that I currently represent, I would be forced to run against Rep. Patti Bellock. We need more female representation in Springfield so I would not run …

Dan, there are a number of big issues out there that people are talking about. How those come up largely depends upon the age and circumstance of the …   more ›

House Map Places Bulk of Elmhurst in One District

New lines could pit three Republican lawmakers against each other if they seek a seat in the next election.

Two House Republicans currently representing Elmhurst are taking a wait-and-see approach on a proposed redistricting plan that will place them in the same legislative district. Under a proposed House map released earlier this week by Democratic lawmakers, Elmhurst residents would largely be in one House district. If approved as is, the new House District 47 would span from Grand Avenue to Hinsdale. A small portion of Elmhurst, near York High School would be in House District 46. Reps. Chris Nybo, R-41, and Dennis Reboletti, R-46, have been drawn into the same legislative district by Democratic mapmakers. Additionally, the Democrats drew Rep. Patti Bellock , R-Westmont, into the same district, effectively hamstringing three Republican …
