I think it's great, who wants people driving around wasted or loaded? 951 traffic deaths in the state of illinois in 2012, i just would like to see mandatory prison sentances for DUI's and a biological film type skin patch with nanotechnology so these people can be watched via satellite and tracked There should be a sentence option (B.) like you have to volunteer to change bed pans at senior …   more ›

How Many Drinks Will Get You A DUI? [Chart]

Elmhurst police will continue their DUI enforcement campaign through New Year's. Here's what you should know about how alcohol affects your system—and your criminal record.

Do you know how many drinks you can have before you're in danger of getting a drunken driving violation? This chart can offer some insight, but it's not meant to guide your decisions on New Year's Eve. Elmhurst police are continuing their Stay Sober of Get Pulled Over campaign through the New Year's holiday. That means extra officers will be on the streets, especially during the overnight hours, looking for drunken drivers and seat belt violators. When police pull drivers over for suspected drunken driving, officers ask them to perform field sobriety tests and to take a breath test to measure blood alcohol content. A BAC test measures the percentage of alcohol present in a person's bloodstream. The legal limit is 0.08. According to the …

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign Under Way for the Holidays

Extra Elmhurst police officers again will be out during the overnight hours to stop drunk drivers and seat belt violators.

The Elmhurst Police Department has begun its holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket” crackdown. The intensified enforcement effort against drunk drivers and seat belt law violators underscores the disproportionate number of traffic deaths caused by alcohol and failure to buckle up. The stepped-up enforcement began Dec. 17 and runs through New Year’s Eve. Enforcement efforts will concentrate on the deadly nighttime hours, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the midnight to 3 a.m. time frame is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways, and data shows that 9 p.m. is the time of day alcohol involvement and low seat …

Moms Talk POLL: Will You Stay Up for New Year's 2012?

Are you a party mom, a stay-at-home mom or a go-to-bed-early mom? Take our Patch poll.

During our younger years, we made late dinner reservations and stayed out until the wee hours of the morning. As we got older, we started spending the evening in, with an intimate dinner, a good movie, a bottle of champagne and a "Happy New Year!" at the stroke of midnight. When the kids were babies, we'd hope the noise outside didn't wake them. And when they got a little older, we'd let them stay up until 9 or 10 o'clock for our own family "Happy New Year" yelling and confetti, funny hats and cranking noise-makers. Now, we're just happy if we can stay awake until midnight. What kind of mom are you? Take our Patch poll and share your favorite New Year's Eve memories in the comments field.
