Chicago area flood watch scheduled to expire Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service's flood watch for Cook, DuPage and Kane counties, and virtually the entire Chicago area, is scheduled to expire at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. Showers and thunderstorms spread across Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana Tuesday afternoon, with rain persisting through the evening. Precipitation of 1.5 to 2 inches was predicted, with some areas receiving more. "Much of the area continues to have frozen ground, with only the top few inches of soil having thawed," according to the weather service. "(This) could lead to a majority of the rainfall becoming runoff and resulting in a rapid rise to area streams and rivers." DuPage County issued the following statement Tuesday afternoon: "DuPage County Stormwater …

As of Tuesday, Chicago has gone 281 days without a measurable snowfall. If this keeps up, another record could be broken.
Thanks to last spring's early arrival and a snowless December thus far, the Chicago area has broken the record for the most days without a measurable snowfall, The Chicago Tribune is reporting. The Chicago area has not had snow for 281 days as of Tuesday, which breaks the record set in 1994, according to the National Weather Service. The latest date for recorded measurable snowfall was Dec. 16, 1965, so we're likely to break another record. We're not going to see snow anytime soon. In fact, we're in for a warmup this week, with highs in the mid- to upper-40s Thursday, Friday and Saturday, according to the NWS. The national weather service is placing the chance of rain today, Friday, at 90 percent. We should get a taste of those cooler temperatures everyone has been clamoring for, with today's high predicted at 76 and the low at 56 overnight. But if we can make it through a dreary day today, the weekend should be picture perfect. Saturday will be sunny, with a high of 70, and Sunday looks to be exactly the same, according to the National Weather Service—perfect for Sunday's Walk to Talk fund-raiser at Berens Park. Check our …
