Elmhurst Police Officer Honored by MADD
Officer Matthew McCollum led the department in DUI arrests in 2011.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving on Sept. 22 recognized Officer Matthew McCollum of the Elmhurst Police Department for his efforts in reducing alcohol abuse in Elmhurst. Each year, MADD recognizes individuals in Illinois who make exemplary efforts to eliminate drunk driving, provide support for victims of DUI and help prevent underage drinking. Elmhurst Police Department has a long history of aggressive DUI enforcement. In 2011, the Elmhurst Police Department made 367 DUI arrests which was the sixth highest in the state. McCollum was the leading officer in Elmhurst with 73 DUI arrests. He is also a police academy instructor where he trains police recruits in the administration of DUI field sobriety tests. I am happy that people who are drinking and driving, are being punished for there crimes, and hopefully saving some lives in the process. Although, I do not respect that the fact that there is a "REAL RACKET" going on with this. He should not be glorified for having the most arrests, that is his job and we pay him well for it!
