Elmhurst Police Hunt Armed Robbery Suspect in Lombard, Man Arrested for Soliciting Sex

And, missing person found unconscious.

Elmhurst police and their K-9 unit were dispatched twice Sunday night to assist other agencies. At 9:40 p.m., they were dispatched to Lombard to assist in the tracking of a suspect after an armed robbery at 9:40 p.m. Jan. 6. The robbery was reported at the 7-Eleven at Crescent and St. Charles Road, near Interstate 355. The suspect was seen running westbound. At 9:46 p.m. the same night, Elmhurst police were dispatched to Villa Park to assist with a call for shots fired at Motel 6, 10 W. Roosevelt Road. No weapon or shell casings were discovered, according to a police report. Police did not indicate if the two cases were related. Thomas D. Sims, 28, 275 W. North Ave., Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with solicitation of a sex act after …

Lombard Man Suspected in Three Bank Robberies is Behind Bars

Martin Crossley's next court date is Dec. 14.

A Lombard man suspected of committing three Chicago-area bank robberies was arrested Monday, Dec. 10, the FBI announced Wednesday. Martin Crossley, 37, was taken into custody without incident Monday afternoon at a relative’s home in Lombard. He was charged with one count of felony bank robbery in connection with the Nov. 30 robbery of the First Merit Bank branch, 678 Lee Street in Des Plaines. According to the complaint, Crossley entered First Merit Bank and waited in line as a teller assisted another customer with a number of transactions.  The complaint states that the teller interrupted those transactions to assist Crossley, who then stepped away and removed a plastic liner from a trash can in the bank’s lobby.  Crossley then allegedly …

Lost Cockatiel Nursed Back to Health By Stranger, Returned to Family

Lombard resident Frank Alonso said his whiteface cockatiel, Tango, was found frozen and motionless at a nearby hotel after escaping his home Thanksgiving morning.

A 10-month-old cockatiel from Lombard experienced quite the adventure Thanksgiving Day after he escaped his owner's home, flew to a nearby hotel and ended up in the care of a bird-loving stranger. Frank Alonso, 24, and his wife, Kim, purchased Tango the cockatiel when he was just 8 weeks old and quickly fell in love with his charismatic personality. On Thanksgiving morning, however, the Alonsos thought they had lost their beloved pet forever. While Kim was feeding birds outside their home, Tango flew out the open balcony door and was taken by the wind. He ended up on the roof, wailing out of fear and confusion, Frank said. No Bail for Villa Park Man Accused of Murder, Arson

State's Attorney's Office says accused killer Todd Mandoline was a former boyfriend of the deceased.

Bail was denied Wednesday for the Villa Park man accused of murdering 24-year-old Paula Morgan of Lombard. Todd Mandoline, 23, of 281 Terry Lane, a former boyfriend of Morgan's, is accused of setting fire to the home at 1028 S. Ahrens, where she lived in with her 6-year-old son and mother, in the early morning hours of July 22. Her son escaped injury and her mother wasn't home at the time, but another person in the home, Jason Cassidy, 25, was seriously injured. According to a press release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, Mandoline had been held on a no-bail warrant in connection with the case. At a scheduled bond hearing before DuPage County Judge John Kinsella July 25, Mandoline was accompanied by a public defender. But…

FBI Says Lombard Man Tried to Hire Hitman to Get Out of $8 Million Judgment

Daniel Dvorkin wanted his intended victim to "stop breathing."

A Lombard man who lost a civil suit and was ordered to pay $8.2 million to another corporate entity, was arrested July 5 for attempting to arrange the murder of the plaintiff in that case, according to a release from the Chicago FBI. Daniel Dvorkin, 74, of 1636 South Highland Ave., was arrested Thursday at his real estate development firm, Dan Development Inc., 1 Trans Am Plaza, Oakbrook Terrace. According to the complaint, Dvorkin met a cooperating witness in April at his office and provided the person a copy of a court order reflecting that he and his company had been ordered to pay an $8.2 million civil judgment to another company. Dvorkin said if the man was dead, he wouldn't have to pay the judgment. He told the witness he wanted the …

Metra Train Strikes Pedestrian Near Lombard

This is the second train incident this week near Lombard.

A Metra train on the Union-Pacific West line struck a pedestrian around 9:30 a.m. near Grace Street in Lombard Sunday, according to Metra officials.  An inbound train scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 9:50 a.m. struck the pedestrian and is now halted near the scene of the accident. An outbound train scheduled to arrive at Elburn at 10:06 a.m. is stopped near Villa Park until further notice. On Sundays, trains are scheduled every two hours, according to Metra officials and it's unclear if the incident will cause further delays. Metra officials encourage commuters to stay tuned to Metra's website for updates. This is the second train to strike a pedestrian this week near Lombard.
