Letter to the Editor

Letter: John McDonough Grateful to His Supporters

McDonough looks forward to continued dialog on how District 205 schools can better meet children's needs.

I sincerely thank all of you who entrusted me with your vote for School Board. I will try my best to meet your expectations and will work hard to help restore that sense of common purpose that makes our community a special place to live. In this election, it felt like I had returned to school at age 51. I learned not only about important educational issues, but I learned directly from many of you about our schools and the ways you believe they can better meet our kids’ needs. I’m looking forward to continuing and expanding on this important, but merely initial, dialogue.  I truly commend all the candidates for their efforts and extend a sincere thank you to Deb Conroy for her years of dedicated service on the board. Finally, thanks to …

Letter to the Editor

Letter: John McDonough is Deeply Committed to Elmhurst

Background includes referendum coordinator, PTA helper, soccer coach and church volunteer.

We are lucky to live in a community where many of us volunteer our time for community service and Elmhurst is all the better for it. In the 10 years I have lived in Elmhurst and known John McDonough as a friend, neighbor and fellow volunteer, I have yet to meet many more deeply committed to doing what is right for his community than John. If you live in Elmhurst, you have a strong stake in the April 5 election. If you care about Elmhurst and its future, please vote for John for District 205 School Board. Not only is John one of the most intelligent, knowledgeable, grounded and caring persons I know, he is wholeheartedly dedicated to service. Whether serving on a principal interview committee, as school referendum coordinator, PTA and Art …

Letter: John McDonough Not Beholden to Special Interests

All Elmhurst citizens have vested interest in School Board elections.

If, like me, you are a registered voter in Elmhurst, we need to take this upcoming School Board election seriously.  With or without kids in District 205, we all have a vested interest in providing the best possible educational experience in Elmhurst.   So how do we know who will make the best School Board members?  Here is my criteria: 1. Independent thinking:  School Board members must be resourceful enough to research the issues and options and then smart enough to let this information guide wise decisions.  They need to ask the hard questions about spending and accountability.  Voting as a block goes against the very trust voters place in each individual they elect to office. 2. Communicate effectively with all sides: We need someone …

Meet the Candidates: District 205 School Board

John McDonough Enters District 205 Race with Legal Background, Experience as a Moderator

His priority is to improve dialog with the community. Eight candidates are vying for four open seats in the April 5 election.

What is the primary reason you are running for this office? I’m running for School Board because I believe my professional background, skills and genuine desire for progress will help provide a solid foundation for the future and restore stability and trust. When I care deeply about a cause, I pitch in and see things through to completion. I work hard to learn the issues and speak out in support of those whom I feel need a supportive voice. I sincerely hope that by being a constructive, collaborative and independent member of the board, I can be a positive force to help get us all where we want and need to go.  What will be your priority if elected? Immediately, I would work with fellow board members to devise new ways to improve dialogue …
