Tammy Duckworth Sworn in to Congress

Late last week, Duckworth was sworn in as the new representative for the 8th Congressional District.

After a stealth win over incumbent Congressman Joe Walsh, Tammy Duckworth was sworn in Thursday, Jan. 3 in Washington, D.C., as the new representative for the 8th Congressional District.  The ceremony was held at the Disabled American Veterans office.  “I want to thank the people of the 8th Congressional District for giving me the great honor of serving them in Congress," Duckworth said in a press release. "I am eager to get to work on behalf of my constituents. There are many issues facing our nation and I will work with anyone who loves this country as much as I do to get her moving again." Duckworth was victorious with more than a 10-point lead over Walsh in the Nov. 6, 2012 General Election.  Since the loss, Walsh has hinted he would …

After his loss to Tammy Duckworth in the Nov. 6 election, former U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh is open to a run for Illinois governor, the Huffington Post is reporting.

Duckworth Wins 8th Congressional District, Defeats Walsh

Results came in quickly Tuesday night, and by 10:15 p.m. Duckworth was the clear winner.

Update 12:00 a.m. Republican Congressman Joe Walsh knew Cook County would be a challenge in his quest for the 8th Congressional seat, but he and his staffers hoped conservative voters from DuPage and Kane County would offset that obstacle. That was not the case on Tuesday. With 409 of the 430 precincts reporting election results by 11 p.m., Democratic challenger Tammy Duckworth held 56.3 of the votes and Walsh had 43.7. Duckworth had 116,872 votes to Walsh's 97,331 at that time. DuPage County numbers were slightly closer; Duckworth grabbing 52 percent of the votes to Walsh's 48 percent - with all precincts from that county reporting. Kane County still had 12 precincts to send in votes, but Duckworth had the lead there, too. The three hours…

I would like to complain about Ralph's choice of profile avatar. I flagged his comment hoping there would be a field to explain my complaint, but there wasn't, so I am hoping you will catch this in approving this comment. Everyone has freedom of speech and I do not object to his comment nor to his right to express his opinion on President Obama. I do, however, strongly object to his avatar as it …   more ›

Money, Effort Spent for 8th Congressional District Seat

Democratic challenger Tammy Duckworth (D) and freshman Republican Joe Walsh (R) each have received substantial financial support to reach out to voters, in addition to other area candidates, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Thousands of dollars have been donated, and thousands of phone calls made to help clinch the 8th Congressional District seat currently held by freshman republican Joe Walsh, the Chicago Tribune reports.  Both democratic challenger, Tammy Duckworth and Walsh each have received substantial support from their party's Super PAC's, but the Chicago Tribune reports Walsh has outspent Duckworth by thousands.

I believe that the Lord will watch over us and protect us from Joe Walsh. With the help of our Heavenly Father, we will arrive at our polling stations safely, to cast a vote for Tammy Duckworth. As the future Rep Duckworth takes her oath to serve her constituents honorably, as she has done in the past while Serving in Iraq, I will bow my head in prayer. Thank you Jesus for sending us this strong…   more ›

Accusations Fly Between Walsh, Duckworth

With the election just four days away, Congressman Joe Walsh and his opponent Tammy Duckworth are doing all they can to discredit each other.

With the November 6 election just days away, the barbs between incumbent Congressman Joe Walsh and his opponent Tammy Duckworth appear to be at a fever pitch. Walsh has called into question Duckworth's firing of two state employees when she ran the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, CBS reports. Duckworth has commented little as she has said the case is still in litigation.  Duckworth has pointed the finger as well. In a press release from her campaign office Thursday, Duckworth criticized Walsh for his alleged association with the group Now or Never, for spending $1 million against her campaign.  She referred the group as a "Super PAC completely funded by the far-right wing organization Americans for Limited Government," according …

8th Congressional District: Duckworth Addresses DNC

8th Congressional District candidate Tammy Duckworth addressed the Democratic National Convention Tuesday.

Tammy Duckworth, candidate in the 8th Congressional District, addressed the Democratic National Convention Tuesday. Duckworth began by talking about her background and her service as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot in the Iraq War. Duckworth lost both of her legs when she was shot down in 2004. She then served as director of Illinois' Department of Veterans' Affairs and was assistant secretary of Veterans Affairs under President Barack Obama. Duckworth's opponent in the November election is incumbent Republican Joe Walsh. Walsh did not attend the Republican National Convention last week. "Last week Joe skipped his party's convention to spend time in the 8th district listening to the concerns of voters, meeting with small business owners and …

Great link..........Just what we all need, a lecture from a man in the ivory tower. OK Dor. You go on proudly wearing that left wing monicker and continue voting for bumbling amatures like Obama. It's a good thing you don't live in a state like Florida or Ohio, where your vote might really mean something. Hopefully, the thoughtful folks in the swing states will save us from this disaster.   more ›

Walsh Defends Akin Against 'Rush to Pile On'

Rep. Joe Walsh chided Republicans for abandoning Akin in the firestorm following his 'legitimate rape' comment.

U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh had fellow Congressman Todd Akin's back as other Republicans questioned the Missourian's ability to unseat a Democratic incumbent in an important Senate race. “What he said was offensive, insulting and wrong, but I’m bothered by this rush to pile on," Walsh said. "And I’m bothered by the silence of members of our own party to stand up for him.” Walsh's comments Tuesday evening came as Akin defied party leaders' calls for Akin to drop out of the Senate race after commenting that women's bodies can somehow prevent pregnancies in cases of legitimate rape. Akin released a video Tuesday apologizing for the comments and insisted on morning network TV shows and conservative talk radio that top Republicans were overreacting. …

Illinois Republicans Discuss Akin, Party Response

Roskam, Walsh discuss GOP Senate candidate from Missouri during the Multi-County Young Republican Conference in Yorkville on Tuesday.

Within hours of GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin's deadline to withdraw from the race without a court order, Illinois Congressmen were discussing his heavily criticized comments about "legitimate rape" and the party's reaction. Rep. Peter Roskam (6th District), who also is the Chief Deputy Whip, and Rep. Randy Hultgren (14th District) said Akin had a responsibility to Republicans to consider whether he could unseat Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri. “I hope he does look beyond himself," Hultgren said. "We’re at a tipping point right now. We do need the Senate, and we do need the White House.” Their comments came during a Multi-County Young Republican Conference in Yorkville designed to rally participants and help form talking points…

"And I’m bothered by the silence of members of our own party to stand up for him.” What he said was wrong, both in substance and science. The fact that Joe Walsh would rush to defend him says more then enough about him for me. Come November Tammy Duckworth it is.   more ›
