More Police On the Roads Looking for Drunk Drivers
Enforcement campaign in full swing through July 4.
The Elmhurst Police Department is in the middle of a two-week enforcement period designed to make the roads safer for all drivers. The city received a year-long grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation so it can beef up patrols to find more impaired drivers and drivers not wearing their seat belts. The current campaign began June 22 and will continue through Wednesday, July 4. The additional officers will be out between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., which are the most dangerous times on Illinois roadways. Statistics show the week of July 4 is one of the most dangerous times to be on the road due to the increase in drunken driving, according to a press release from the Elmhurst Police Department.
