Illinois Lottery Powerball Pot of Gold Tops $200 Million; Drawing is Tonight

Illinois Lottery could provide an extra happy St. Patrick’s Day for a lucky winner.

There’s an Irish blessing that says “may your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, May good luck pursue you each morning and night," according to The Quote Garden website. A lucky winner may have heavy pockets and a light heart thanks to the $200 million plus Powerball jackpot up for grabs this weekend. The Powerball jackpot rolled over this week and stands at $216 million, Illinois Lottery officials said Thursday. The next drawing is today, Saturday, March 16. The current jackpot has a cash value of $132.8 million and $92.9 million after taxes, lottery officials said. Comedian and TV personality Andy Richter stars in a new multi-media ad campaign. Two Illinoisans Win $1 Million Each in Wednesday's Powerball Drawing

Two jackpot-winning tickets were sold in Arizona and Missouri, but two Illinois winners also received a lovely holiday gift.

By now, it's widely known that the winning Powerball tickets from Wednesday's $550 million drawing were sold in Arizona and Missouri. Those winning tickets matched all five numbers and the Powerball number. Each winner will receive about $293.7 million. However, right here in Illinois, two ticket holders matched all five numbers as well (not the Powerball number) and will receive $1 million each. Those tickets were sold at Casey's General Store in Fairmont and Barts Supermarket in Flanagan, according to the Illinois Lottery results page. The winning numbers are 5, 23, 16, 22, 29, 6. Powerball Hits $550 Million Jackpot; Drawing is at 9:59 p.m.

Wednesday’s jackpot could go up higher, lottery officials said.

Jozefa S. is an Illinois State Lottery winner with a bit of advice on playing the lottery: “You can’t win if you don’t play, so go ahead and play.” A lot of people will be plucking down $2 for a Powerball ticket in one of the lottery’s biggest jackpots of the year. The jackpot is now $500 million and may grow larger by Wednesday’s drawing, lottery officials said. “When (the jackpot) is this large, it’s not unusual for the jackpot to go up. I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets pumped up again,” said Chanele Newton, a Northstar Lottery Group spokesman. Northstar runs the Illinois State Lottery.
