Oakbrook Terrace Home Burns for 2 1/2 Hours

The home just southwest of Elmhurst was vacant at the time. DuPage County investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.

A home on the 1S500 block of Halsey Road in Oakbrook Terrace, just southwest of Elmhurst, caught fire at around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning and burned through the early morning, the Doings Oak Brook reports. According to the paper, the two-story wooden home was vacant at the time and nobody was hurt in the fire. DuPage County investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze. “The fire took about 2 1/2 hours to suppress,” Oakbrook Terrace Fire Prevention District chief Ralph DeLuca, Jr. told the paper. “The damage was easily the value of the residence; it was extensive.” Read the full story at the Doings Oak Brook website.

Two Elderly Residents Rescued in Victory Parkway Blaze Saturday Morning

Officials were able to rescue two elderly residents from the fire Saturday. They were transported to the hospital and their conditions were unknown. Damage to the home was estimated at $100,000.

UPDATED: DEC. 29, 11:30 a.m. Two elderly residents, who were trapped in a home during a fire in unincorporated Elmhurst, were rescued and transported to the hospital Saturday morning. Their conditions were unknown, according to officials.  The fire in the brick ranch home on the 15W600 block of Victory Parkway began in the living room, and two of the three residents inside of the home at the time of the fire became trapped in the rear of the house, said Elmhurst Fire Battalion Chief Tim Mahoney. The DuPage County Sheriff was the first on the scene, and with the help of the Elmhurst police and Elmhurst firefighters, two elderly residents in the home were rescued, Mahoney said. Waverton Hotel Evacuated During Weekend Fire

Police said no injuries were reported.

Hotel guests were displaced after Elmhurst firefighters and police responded to a fire on the third floor of the Waverton Hotel, 624 N. York St., at 5:09 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, according to Elmhurst police reports. Police said the fire apparently was caused by a malfunctioning heating unit in an unoccupied third-floor room. The hotel was evacuated and no injuries were reported. The fire, which was extinguished before 7 a.m. that day, caused about $100,000 in damage, according to an article in Suburban Life. In addition to Elmhurst, firefighters from six other jurisdictions responded.

Elmhurst Police Report DUI Arrests and a Hot Bed on North York

Elmhurst man also arrested for riding his bike with an open beer and a one-hitter.

Steve Fisher, 24, 231 E. Madison, Villa Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of cannabis and improper stopping on the roadway after police found him sleeping in his black Toyota Avalon at the intersection of First and York streets at 2:01 a.m. Sept. 8. He was released on I-bond. Nicholas S. Reynolds, 26, 2500 78th Court, Elmwood Park, was arrested and charged with DUI after he was pulled over for speeding and improper lane use at Roosevelt and Route 83 at 1:37 a.m. Sept. 9. Police Say Victims in Villa Park Fire Were Murdered

Victim's boyfriend was found dead in Dolton with self-inflicted gunshot wound.

It turns out the four people who were found dead yesterday morning after a house fire at Summit and Roosevelt roads in unincorporated Villa Park had been shot, multiple news sources are reporting. Ursula Nailor, 37; her sons, Darnell Holt, 16, and Dan Nailor, 13; and her niece, Dominique Robinson, 19,  were likely murdered before the fire was set, Fox News Chicago is reporting. Police suspect that Nailor's boyfriend, Cedric Anderson, shot the four, set the house on fire and then killed himself. He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound yesterday afternoon in Dolton. A note and a .357 magnum believed used in the shootings was found at the Dolton home, The Chicago Tribune is reporting. Anderson had a long criminal history in Cook …

Basement Fire Closes Julianne's Cake and Pastry

Damage is estimated at $50,000.

Julianne's Cake and Pastry, 488 South Spring Road, is closed due to a fire in the basement last weekend. Elmhurst Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Bacidore reported that the call for the fire came in at 2:56 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, and that it was under control by 3:11 p.m. There were no injuries. The fire was caused by combustible materials placed too close to the water heater, Bacidore said. The fire department estimates damage to the contents of the store at $25,000 and to the structure, itself, at another $25,000. Fire crews from Oakbrook Terrace and Villa Park also responded, and a total of 24 firefighters were on the scene, Bacidore said. According to a message customers can hear when they call the store, crews are at work restoring the business…

Two Men Try to Get Into York High School in the Wee Hours

Elmhurst police also report property damage and an unsuspicious fire.

Suspicious Circumstances An Elmhurst District 205 employee who was in his vehicle on a break saw two men on York High School property pulling on various doors and trying to enter the building at 1:35 a.m. Aug. 5. The employee yelled at the suspects. One hid behind a generator, then they both ran away. One man was about 5-foot-6-inches tall, 125 pounds with long hair and wearing a long grey jersey and jeans. The other was about 5-foot-8-inches tall, 145 pounds wearing a red T-shirt and black biker-type spandex shorts. No damage was found and they did not gain entry into the school. Damage to Property Ten signs were spray painted along the north side of the Illinois Prairie Path between Berkley Avenue and Rex Boulevard between 1:30 p.m. March 18 and 9 a.m. March 21. The ground on the Prairie Path between Fairview and Sunnyside streets also was spray painted. A resident of the 700 block of Adele told police that four men came to his door asking to speak with his step-son at 10:15 p.m. March 27. The resident told them his step-son was asleep and could not come to the door. When the four men demanded to see him, the resident told them to leave or he would call the police. The suspects left in a black Chevy Tahoe or Ford Explorer. Moments later, the man went outside and noticed his plastic mailbox was broken into pieces. …

Elmwood Park Man Taken to County Jail on Several Charges

Fraud, possession of cannabis and disorderly conduct also reported.

Violation of an Order of Protection Bryan Duran, 30, 7330 W. Schubert, Elmwood Park, was arrested and charged with felony aggravated driving with a revoked license, failure to yield and violation of an order of protection after police stopped his vehicle at 4:43 p.m. March 30 at North Avenue and York Road. Duran was found to have an active failure to appear warrant out of Cook County on another charge of driving with a revoked license. The passenger in the vehicle has an active order of protection against Duran. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.
