Woman Struck by Car in Front of Jewel-Osco in South Elmhurst

Eye witness at the scene said her injuries appeared "very severe."

The condition of a woman struck by a car near the Jewel-Osco in south Elmhurst is unknown as of Saturday evening, but an eye witness at the scene said her injuries appeared to be very severe. Police were still at the scene, at Van Buren and York Road, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers, who were recreating the accident that occurred at about 2:40 p.m., shared very little information, other than that one person was taken to the hospital. Elmhurst resident Mark Vorel was driving east on Van Buren, preparing to turn north onto York, when he saw an older woman and a teenage boy preparing to step off the sidewalk on the southwest corner of the intersection, next to the Jewel plaza. Elmhurst Police Report Eight Arrests for DUI in the Past Week

Woman who came into the police station to report she hit a parked vehicle was charged with DUI.

The following arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol were taken from Elmhurst police reports dated May 3-8. Cathy A. O'Neill, age not given, 241 E. St. Charles Road, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with DUI after police say she came into the police department on May 3 to report the Honda CRV she was driving hit a parked vehicle at Chandler and Park. She was released on bond. Andrew Sanchez, 23, 6851 S. Komensky, Chicago, was arrested and charged with DUI after police pulled over his Chevrolet Malibu for improper lane use at York and First streets at 7:58 a.m. May 3. He was released on bond. Esteban Dayton, 31, 2790 Rhodes Apt. 8, Northlake, was arrested and charged with driving without registration, driving without insurance, improper use of registration, possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of a license plate sticker after police pulled over his black Chrysler 300 at County Line and Grand at 1:12 a.m. May 3. Police said he had a registration sticker on his vehicle that did not match his car. He was released on bond. Joseph M. Elmhurst Police Arrest Melrose Park Man for Breaking into Cars

Police reported multiple vehicle burglaries were discovered last weekend.

An observant resident was able to identify a man who allegedly broke into several cars in Elmhurst on May 5. Ronnie Levandowski, 28, 3005 Alta St., Melrose Park, was arrested and charged with felony burglary to a motor vehicle and felony attempted burglary to a motor vehicle after police say he was seen pulling on handles of parked cars on the 600 block of North Oaklawn at 11:14 p.m. May 5. Police received a call from a resident who was woken up by his dog barking at something outside. The witness saw a red Ford Mustang traveling northbound on Oaklawn with the headlights off. Elmhurst Police Report License Violations for the Second Half of April

Police report two arrests for revoked licenses, 13 arrests for suspended licenses and six arrests for driving without a license between April 17 and 30.

Alejo Diaz, 41, 17W706 Butterfield Road Apt. 109, Oakbrook Terrace, was arrested and charged with driving with a revoked license after police pulled over his Chevy Suburban for driving around marked barricades on North Avenue at 7:27 a.m. April 19. Man With Bullet in His Leg Gets Treatment at EMHC

Elmhurst Memorial Hospital officials called Elmhurst police last week after they discovered a hospital patient had a bullet in his leg. Police reported at 6:50 p.m. April 30 that the medical personnel learned the bullet was from a gang-related shooting that occurred two years ago. The patient said he was questioned by the Cicero Police Department on the night of the shooting. The man told police at the time that he did not want to press charges, police said. At the time of the shooting, the bullet was too close to an artery for it to be safely removed surgically. But recently, the man said it has become very painful, swollen and infected. He was referred to a surgeon at Elmhurst Memorial to have the bullet removed, according to the report…

Iguana May Have Fought Back Against Thief

Homeowners reported finding blood on the porch.

An iguana may have fought the person who stole it from its home on the 500 block of West Alexander Boulevard last week, according to a report from Elmhurst police. The animal was reportedly stolen between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday, April 24, the owners told police. They said the 3 1/2-foot iguana sunbathes in the front window of the home from time to time, and they believe someone entered their unlocked front door and stole it. The owners searched the house, but it was nowhere to be found. But they did find blood droplets on the porch floor and on envelopes in their mailbox, according to the report. They said they believe the thief may have been bitten or clawed by the iguana as he or she was taking it from the home.

Elmhurst Police Issue Special Bulletin After Suspicious Man Offers Young Girls a Ride

Girls first see the man downtown, then again four hours later in a different location.

Elmhurst Police Department has released a special bulletin after two teen girls were approached over the weekend by a stranger, who asked them if they wanted a ride. According to a police report, at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, the 13- and 14-year-old girls said they were walking downtown near Addison Avenue and Second Street when a man about 30 to 35 years old approached them in an older model, gray sedan and asked if they wanted a ride. They said the man was Caucasian, slightly overweight, with short brown hair and wearing a gray T-shirt. The vehicle had several thick horizontal black stripes on both of the driver-side doors, they said. Police said the girls saw the same suspect and vehicle again in the 200 block of Cottage Hill …
