Police Blotter: Domestic Battery and Retail Theft Arrests Reported

From the June 14 Elmhurst police report.

THURSDAY, JUNE 14 Jomo K. Bettis, 36, 690 N. West Ave. Apt. 2, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 1:11 a.m. June 14. He was taken to DuPage County Jail. Pamela Johnson, 43, 56 N. Laramie Apt. 2B, Chicago, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft after she took two packages of Dove soap and a pack of towels worth $22.57 from CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave., at 12:50 p.m. June 14. Johnson is on parole for retail theft. She was taken to DuPage County Jail. Someone took an unlocked, green Avigo Revolution bicycle from the railing near door No. 7 at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, at 12:30 p.m. June 14. The owner of the bike, which is worth $125, was attending a summer football camp at the school. …

Police Blotter: Jewelry, Bike and Cigarettes Among Items Reported Stolen

TUESDAY, JUNE 12 The owner of Goes Incentives and Awards, 512 W. Van Buren, told police he received a check, payable to him, for $2,250 from Multimax Inc. out of Largo Maryland. The complainant told police on June 12 that he has never done any business with the company and does not know why they are sending him a check. The officer contacted the phone number for the company and got a woman's voicemail. Police left a message and took the check for evidence. Someone stole 12, 100-pound cast iron plates worth $2,500 from a Chase HI Magnum 180 tractor that was parked in front of the ComEd substation at 790 N. Police Say Thief Was Making the Rounds at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Campus

Subjects also picked up for domestic battery and on warrants.

Theft Arrests Jeffrey Prate, 29, 208 S. Ardmore, Villa Park, was arrested and charged with felony theft and felony burglary after an incident at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill, at 2:06 p.m. May 24. Hospital security personnel said they saw a suspicious man walking around the hospital and they believed he may have stolen a phone. Prate was later found in a bathroom. He allegedly admitted to taking the phone, and it was recovered in a wooded area near the hospital. Police later determined Prate also took a wallet from a purse in the Elmhurst Center for Health, 1200 S. York. He was taken to DuPage County Jail. Christopher Jones, 27, 1S220 Ingersoll, Villa Park, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft after he …

Phone Held Hostage by Menacing Thief and Bar Patron Makes a Death Threat

Items reported stolen include cash, tools, cell phone and an $8,000, 53-foot trailer.

Threats Made A man between 30 and 35 years old, about 5-foot-4, 160 pounds with short black hair and a thin mustache threatened an employee of a bar on the 600 block of West Lake Street at 12:52 p.m. May 17. The suspect came into the bar and was making small talk with the waitresses. He was asked to leave if he wasn't going to order anything. He left, then came back with a bouquet of flowers he said was for the "waitress with the short blonde hair." He was told no one works there with short blonde hair and he was asked again to leave. The suspect said "How would you like it if I came back and murdered you?" He left in a silver car. If he returns, he will be issued a no-trespass order. Police Find Car 'Engulfed in Flames'

Owner didn't know the car had left his home.

Suspicious Fire A car belonging to a resident of the 200 block of East Park Street was discovered "completely engulfed in flames" in Hillside at 2:06 a.m. May 16, police said. The owner of the car was contacted, and he said he was unaware that the car had been moved from his home. The Hillside Police are investigating. Warrant Arrests Following an accident report at the Elmhurst Police Station, John Matheny, 46, 913 Dale Ann, DeKalb, was found to be wanted out of DeKalb County for failure to appear on a charge of driving with a suspended license. Elmhurst Police Find Cocaine After Traffic Stop

Possession of a Controlled Substance Alexis Fernanredez, 33, 121 S. 48th Court, Cicero, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine after police pulled over his gray Chevrolet Impala for failure to yield at a stop sign at York and First Street at 7:50 a.m. May 12. Fernanredez gave officers a false name and date of birth, and police discovered he was driving on a suspended/revoked license. He taken to DuPage County Jail and his vehicle was towed for forfeiture. Dog at Large A woman who lives on the 600 block of West Gladys Avenue in Elmhurst was cited for having a dog at large at 10:52 p.m. May 5. A man told police he was walking his leashed, 25-pound poodle when the woman's 75-pound pitbull charged at them. The man said this was the third time he has called the police about his neighbor's dog being on the loose. Elmhurst police reported several instances of theft between Nov. 1 and 3: An employee at Buffalo Wild Wings, 149 N. York Road, told police that two women left without paying their $44.66 bill at 10:29 p.m. Nov. 1. Police will examine surveillance video. Someone stole two packs of cigarettes and some CDs from a vehicle parked on the 1200 block of York Road between 9:32 and 10:52 p.m. Nov. 1. Man Refuses to Pay Cabbie, a Lighter to the Head Leads to Warrant Arrest and Teens Try to get Beer at CVS

Theft Arrests A Chicago man took a cab into Elmhurst then reportedly refused to pay the fare June 4. Police found Pedro Ocampo, 20, 2509 W. Cortland, Chicago, pounding on a door at an apartment complex on the 100 block of West Virginia Street at 1:55 a.m. Police learned he had taken a cab from Oak Park to his girlfriend’s apartment to see his baby, but he had no money. His girlfriend would not let him inside nor pay for the $23 cab ride. Ocampo was charged with theft of services and consumption of alcohol by a minor. He was released on bond to his sister.
