Florida woman facing multiple charges after allegedly crashing into cars on Saylor.
Elmhurst police have identified the woman arrested Friday for trying to escape police and crashing into several cars in a residential neighborhood. Rachael N. Laube, 26, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is facing multiple charges after the incident, which began at 4:30 p.m. when police were called to Inland Bank for a report of deceptive practice in progress. Police said Laube was in the bank drive-up lane, at 539 S. Spring, attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Woman tries to escape police after incident at Inland Bank.

Residents on Saylor Street in Elmhurst were startled Friday afternoon when a car driven by a woman reportedly trying to escape police came barreling down their street. "The noise was crazy," one woman said. "All of a sudden you hear screeching tires, police cars." A little after 4:30 p.m., police received a call for fraudulent activity at Inland Bank, 539 S. Spring Road, at the corner of Montrose and Spring. Police reportedly were waiting in the area for the suspect, a female, to leave the bank. A GPS worth $200 and a leather wallet containing a drivers license, credit cards and $200 was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on the 700 block of South Euclid between 11 p.m. May 8 and 5 a.m. May 9. Someone also entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on the 800 block of South Euclid during the same time period. Nothing appeared to be missing, but the glove box was rifled through and the door was ajar. A wallet that had been stolen from another vehicle was found in the street. A white man driving a gold sedan stopped at Cottage Hill and Church and asked girls walking westbound on Church to place their bags in the back of his car at 6:19 p.m. May 17. A Franklin Park man has been charged with unlawful videotaping, a Class 4 Felony, for allegedly videotaping women while they used a washroom at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. Salvador Perez, 49, of 2538 Sonia Ave., appeared in Bond Court Saturday morning, where Judge Michael Wolfe set his bond at $150,000. It is alleged that on Friday, May 17, Perez positioned his cellular phone under the sink of a unisex bathroom at the hospital. He allegedly positioned it so the camera on the phone would record the toilet area. He then activated the video record function and exited the bathroom, according to the complaint. Case of mistaken identity leads to some unsettling moments for parents Wednesday morning.
A stranger alert sent out to Elmhurst residents via School District 205 on Wednesday afternoon turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. At about 11:25 a.m., police sent out a bulletin to the district, which in turn sent it out to parents, stating that a group of Jackson Elementary School students in first through fifth grade had been approached before school on Wednesday by two men in a white pickup truck who offered them lollipops. The students, who were standing at the corner of Van Buren and Saylor, said no to the men and reported the incident to school officials. Men implied they had a weapon during bold, daytime robbery.
The US Bank branch at 536 S. York Road was robbed by two men who implied they had a weapon at 4:50 p.m. Monday, May 13, according to a bulletin issued by Elmhurst police Chief Michael Ruth. US Bank employees told police that a white man in a gray hoodie and a black man in a yellow hoodie entered the bank and announced they were robbing the place. One of the offenders pushed a teller, and they both jumped over the counter and removed an undetermined amount of money, according to the statement. A weapon was not displayed.
