Toys for Tots Sees Even Greater Support This Year, Perhaps Due to the Tragedy at Sandy Hook

About 400 toys and $2,500 in cash were donated to the drive led by York senior and Elmhurst YMCA.

Elmhurst families and Entact Corp. came through with generous donations for this year's Toys for Tots holiday drive that wrapped up last weekend. York High School senior Thomas Gnadt led the drive, along with Jason and Bill Gorey, who run the ice rink at Elmhurst YMCA. They collected an estimated 400 toys, as well as $2,500 to allowed the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots organization to purchase even more toys for children in need. Gnadt said this year's drive seemed to draw an even stronger outpouring, possibly because of the murder of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Dec. 14. "So many people helped out," he said. "We don't even know how to begin to thank (everyone) since many were anonymous." On …

Life is a Highway if You've Got a Pocket Full of Sunshine and Can Do the Cupid Shuffle

YMCA Summer Camp Talent Show draws hundreds.

Kids in the Elmhurst YMCA Summer Camp took the stage in front of hundreds of spectators for a talent show Wednesday night at the Sandburg Middle School auditorium. It was the 12th annual show for the Elmhurst Y, and this year's young performers did not disappoint. The audience was treated to various renditions of songs, including "Life is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts, "Pocket Full of Sunshine" by Natasha Bedingfield, "More" by Usher, "U Smile" by Justin Bieber, "Firework" by Katy Perry and many more. There was plenty of dancing, some singing, and even an original rap, performed by Aidan Moran and Nicky Barker (see attached video).
