Hey Elmhurst! Enter Patch's 'Deck the House' Contest For a Chance to Win $100,000

Have you decorated your house for the holidays yet? It's time for our "Deck the House" contest, and you could win $100,000 for local schools and $500 to pay your electric bills.

We’re launching our annual Deck the House Contest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America—the best “decked” house in the country—the one home so spectacularly decorated that everyone in town jokes your holiday decorations could rival Rockefeller Center’s. If this sounds like your house, upload a photo or video of your home to our contest page between Nov. 26 to Dec. 16. Only residents of Patch towns are eligible to enter. We’ll select 24 regional finalists, then one grand prize winner. Patch will pay up to $500 toward the utility bill for each finalist, while our national winner will have $100,000 donated to his or her local school district. So, what are you waiting for? Now’s the time to get your holiday decorations …

Elmhurst Patch Has a New Look

Not a major overhaul, but hopefully a little more user-friendly. Let us know what you think in the comments.

No, you're not losing it. Elmhurst Patch looks a little different today. We did a quick, visual nip and tuck to the homepage to make it even more user-friendly. And we've moved a couple pieces of furniture. For those keeping score: While the site might look a little different today, we still offer the same robust coverage of everything happening in your community. That was, is, and will always be our mission. We hope you'll let us know what you think of our tweaks. Drop us a line at karenc@patch.com, or offer a comment below.

Thank you! I can't do anything about the pop ups, but I think you can block them by setting the "preferences" in your browser. My browser of choice for my Mac is Firefox. Click on Firefox, preferences, "block pop ups." In Windows, it's under the "Tools" menu.   more ›

Business Owners: Claim Your Listing on Patch. It's Free!

Managing your own listing on Patch Places will allow you to better promote your business and inform Elmhurst Patch readers.

Before Elmhurst Patch launched in Sept. 2010, editors and freelancers ventured to local businesses in order to collect information for our directory. The result is Patch Places, a spot where users can find descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods and much more for spots around town. All Patch users can add events taking place at local spots, rate the business on a scale of one to five stars and add a review. But owners of local businesses get extra bonuses when they claim a listing. To own your Patch listing: You must be a registered user. If you already are, make sure you're logged in. If you aren't, click "join" on the upper right corner of the page and create a user name and password. Now that you're logged in, go to the Places …

Your family scholar can keep up with local news, including the wide variety of events going on at their high schools and in their communities back home. Besides, we want to stay connected to some of our most loyal readers. Simply visit Elmhurst Patch and sign up college-bound students for the newsletter (you'll find the button at the top of the homepage). 'Places' Home to Local Businesses

Sharp-eyed Patch readers may have noticed a change or two on the site recently–and there's more on the way. For now, check out "Places."

We recently launched a new look for our local listings pages and changed the name from "Directory" to "Places" on our navigation bar. You'll notice on our Places page an increase in featured local listings as well as an easier way to rate and review listings you have visited. Here are a few things to check out: We hope you enjoy the new Places page and use it to learn more about the community. We'd love to hear your feedback. Please e-mail karenc@patch.com with your thoughts.
