Elmhurst Park Board: Incumbents Spaeth, Morissette-Moll Hope to Hang on Against Newcomer, Ennis

Confused about who to vote for in the race for Elmhurst Park Board? See what the candidates have to say about their priorities for the Park District.

Two seats are open on the Elmhurst Park District Board in the April election. The terms of incumbents Vince Spaeth and Patricia Morissette-Moll are expiring this year, and both are hoping to be re-elected. They are being challenged, however, by newcomer Doug Ennis. Spaeth is a life-long Elmhurst resident who is finishing up his first six-year term on the Elmhurst Park Board. He works at ChemTreat, which helps its customers improve water quality and compliance with environmental regulations. Morissette-Moll has been on the Elmhurst Park Board for 18 years, is a life-long Elmhurst resident and a graduate of York High School, and she is a teacher in Elmhurst Unit District 205. Could not the Hahn parcel be made into a grass filled park that could have become a community wide and well utilized area for many different events and gatherings ? Instead we waste a huge amoumt of tax dollars for nothing. The same with Addison. Candidate Filing Period Ends Today at 5 p.m.

Illinois Senate amended its election code so candidates in local elections—from City Council to School Board—can submit nominating petitions until 5 p.m. today.

A new state law passed Nov. 29 by both houses of the General Assembly is good news to municipal clerks, school board secretaries, township clerks, park district and library secretaries and other local election officials who were previously required to accept candidate petitions until 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, regardless of whether their respective governmental offices were open. Senate Bill 3338 amended Section 1-4 of the Election Code to specify that, for the 2013 consolidated election period, local election officials have until 5 p.m. Dec. 26 to accept candidates' petitions or certificates of nomination. City, School and Park Board Candidates Can Pick Up Nominating Packets for April Election

Mayor, seven aldermanic, three school and two park seats are up for election next spring.

Candidate packets for those seeking to run for local office in the April 9, 2013, Consolidated Election are now available. To be eligible to serve, candidates must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old, a registered voter and a resident of the city for at least one year immediately preceding the election. Elections are nonpartisan and board candidates do not indicate a political party affiliation. Candidates should be aware of financial conflict-of-interest limitations set forth in state law.
 Petitions may be circulated immediately. Candidate filing will take place during business hours Dec. 17 to 24 at the administration office of the city, park or school district. Candidates' names will appear on the ballot in the …
