Cross-town Catholic School Track Meet: Visitation vs. IC Grade School

It was really all about fun and family.

Immaculate Conception Grade School and Visitation School track teams met on the track of Elmhurst College earlier this month, where the two Elmhurst schools were able to compete against one another in a fun-filled evening of events.  The JV teams, which consist of fifth- and sixth-grade boys and girls, took to the track first, while the varsity teams, consisting of seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls were sent out to the field. At this meet, athletes get to try new events they may not typically participate in during a weekend meet due to the limitation of entrants per race. Historian Will Bring to Elmhurst College an Inside Look at Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley

Chicago historian Keith Koeneman had unprecedented access to members of Daley's administration.

Keith Koeneman writes about Chicago history, politics and culture. His new book on the retired mayor of Chicago, First Son: The Biography of Richard M. Daley, was built on unprecedented access to the key players in the long-running Daley administration. The book tells the story of a complicated leader—sensitive and tough, impatient and persistent—who as mayor not only ran but also embodied Chicago. The 2013 Relay for Life has already raised more than $15,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Relay for Life of Elmhurst College is holding its annual 12-hour event from 6 p.m. Friday, May 3, through 6 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at 190 South Prospect Ave. According to the official Relay for Life page, more than $15,000 already has been raised for the American Cancer Society. "Relay For Life is more than just a fund-raiser," reads a quote on Elmhurst Relay's Facebook page. "It’s a life-changing experience. At Relay, every person in the community has a chance to celebrate, remember and fight back. Elmhurst College Finding More Ways to Go Green with Home Energy Assessment

Assessment process and rebates available to Elmhurst homeowners, too.

Elmhurst College went green earlier this month, with home energy assessments for 16 of its campus residences. The assessments, offered by ComEd and Nicor, go a long way in the effort to reduce energy use and the impact on the environment. The event coincided with Earth Day 2013; students, faculty and members of the Elmhurst College Sustainability Committee were in attendance. Nicor and ComEd's energy efficiency programs are designed to help customers take control of their energy consumption through knowledge, access to online resources and incentives on energy-efficient technologies.  But it's not just institutional organizations that can benefit. Obituary: James Cunningham, 74, Elmhurst College Jazz Festival's 'Most Ardent Supporter'

Mr. Cunningham was dean of students emeritus at Elmhurst College, and an avid supporter of the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival. Visitation is Sunday, April 14.

Elmhurst College Dean of Students Emeritus James Cunningham, a longtime producer and emcee of the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival, died in his Elmhurst home on April 6. He was 74. During his 35-year career at Elmhurst College as dean of students and a professor of education, James Cunningham devoted himself to enriching the academic and cultural life of Elmhurst students. But his greatest legacy at Elmhurst may be one that has benefited not only Elmhurst College students, but students from all over the world and everyone who loves jazz. James Cunningham joined Elmhurst College in 1968 as associate dean of students and director of the College Union, now the Frick Center. Congratulations to Elmhurst College Midyear Graduates

Thirty-four students from Elmhurst among the 200 who graduated last month.

Thirty-four students from Elmhurst graduated during Elmhurst College’s midyear commencement ceremony last month. About 200 members of the midyear class of 2013 completed the requirements for bachelor's degrees, 11 earned master’s degrees. Sixty-nine students earned distinction, including nine summa cum laude (cumulative grade-point average of 3.90 or better on a 4.0 scale); 34 magna cum laude (3.70 to 3.89); and 26 cum laude (3.50 to 3.69). Dr. S. Today's society is weighed down by partisanship and self interests, said business leaders at Elmhurst College's forum on Jobs, Education and the Economy Wednesday at Drury Lane.

Economic growth is too slow, unemployment is too high and the country is too divided by self interests, say experts in business. On the heels of new report that states the U.S. economy actually shrunk in the fourth quarter of 2012, four titans of business on Wednesday tackled questions related to how we got here and what needs to be done to improve the economy. Busload of Elmhurst College Students Miss Inauguration, But the Trip Was Worth it, They Said

They drove all night to witness history. Mission accomplished.

ABC7 News was at the scene as dozens of Elmhurst College students boarded a bus Sunday night, headed for Washington, D.C. Arrival time was scheduled at 7:30 a.m. Monday, then they would take a 3.5-mile walk to get to the swearing in. ABC7 spoke to several of the students about their reasons for making the grueling trip. Read what they had to say here. But the 56 students arrived late, just as President Obama was finishing his speech, the Chicago Tribune is reporting. Elmhurst College Head Football Coach Tim Lester Resigns

Syracuse came calling with an offer he couldn't refuse.

Elmhurst College head football Coach Tim Lester, who led the Bluejays to their most successful season in school history, has accepted a position as quarterbacks coach at Div. 1 Syracuse University in New York, according to the Syracuse University website.  Lester completed five seasons with Elmhurst College, culminating in the Bluejays' first-ever trip to the NCAA playoffs. The Bluejays earned their first post-season win and their best school record at 10-2. Lester announced his resignation on Monday, Jan. 14. In an interview with D3football.com, Lester said: “This is a very bittersweet day for me and my family.
