Hamburger Jones Aims for September Debut in Former Good Earth Market Building

Plans call for new restaurant to occupy greenhouse area, as well as offer outdoor seating.

Plans have changed once again for the building housing the former Good Earth Market on the southeast corner of York and Vallette streets. In March, Elmhurst Patch reported that the building's owner, Regan Cronin, had planned to re-open as Edelweiss Market and offer a small "Bier Garten" in the greenhouse on the east side of the building. While the plans for the market still appear to be moving forward, the business now operating in the greenhouse may not be Edelweiss. The plan has, for some time, been for two businesses to share the space. On Monday, the Public Affairs and Safety Committee heard a proposal from Anthony Gambino, owner of Salseria Grill and Cantina, to use 2,200 square feet of the building, including the greenhouse area, for…

I like that is different than any thing you can find in elmhurst. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich that was awesome. The server was very attentive and the place was mobbed on a Friday night. Beer list is boring but is priced correctly. It is in the early stages and I hope they continue to chose quality over cutting corner on the menu. Like what I would call a beer garden in the old green house …   more ›

European Deli in Good Earth Building Gets Committee Approval for Liquor License—with Condition

Committee members question child-centered business as second tenant.

Following assurances from the developer that a kid-oriented play spot wasn't necessarily moving in next to a deli that served beer and wine, the city's Public Affairs and Safety Committee Monday recommended approving a liquor license for Edelweiss Market at York and Vallette streets. Edelweiss, operating in the former Good Earth Market space, would sell fresh-cut meats and cheeses, prepared foods, wine and beer, and flowers. Owners Regan and Tom Cronin want to use the existing greenhouse as a beer garden where customers could enjoy their sandwiches with a beer or glass of wine. “This is not a place to get a shot and a beer,” Tom Cronin said. The Cronins also plan to divide the building to allow for a second tenant; plans submitted to the …

Good Earth Market will Get a New Life as Edelweiss Market

Owners plan to re-open with a new theme, a new design and a reduced floor plan.

The owners of Good Earth Market, which has been closed for about a year, are planning to open a new store at the same location, with a new name and a new design. Edelweiss Market will share the building at the corner of York and Vallette streets with another business, according documents submitted to the city of Elmhurst. Store owner Regan Cronin is asking for a new liquor license to sell packaged wine and beer, as well as serve alcohol on the premises. The license granted to Good Earth in 2009 has expired. "The existing building will be divided into two spaces, allowing an additional tenant to occupy its south side," according to the liquor license request signed by Cronin. "Much like its predecessor, Edelweiss Market will be selling fine…

Nice jab Dave. Maybe I came across a bit on the arrogant side. But, I never insinuated the residents of the neighboring communities were ignorant. I did, however, take a cheap shot at their towns. There are many wonderful people in Bensenville, Villa Park, etc... But come on.... I was only pointing out what differentiates Elmhurst from them. It may be a cheap shot at the towns - but not any way …   more ›
