Early Voting Ends Friday at Elmhurst City Hall

Beat the rush and vote early. Ballots will be accepted through April 5.

Voters have three more days to beat the rush and vote early. Early voting for the 2013 Consolidate Election ends Friday, April 5. Elmhurst City Hall, 209 N. York St., will again serve as an early voting location for all registered voters in DuPage County. Early voting will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers through Friday. Registered voters in DuPage County are eligible to vote early at any DuPage County early-voting location. Get Your Politics on in Elmhurst This Week at DuPage County Board Candidate Forum

Early voting begins next week.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, the Elmhurst League of Women Voters will host a candidate forum for candidates running for DuPage County Board in Districts 1 and 2 at Community Bank of Elmhurst, 330 W. Butterfield Road. The candidates will present their views on a variety of county issues, including stormwater management, consolidation of services and the status of the DuPage Airport Authority.  Written questions from the audience also will be put to the candidates by the League of Women Voters moderator. The League will also provide information on the various referenda on the ballot.  Illinois voters will be asked to consider an amendment to the state Constitution regarding public pensions. Early Voting Ends Thursday

Fewer DuPage County residents are voting early compared to the totals for the 2008 primary.

As of Wednesday morning, the second to the last day to cast ballots early for the March 20 primary, a total of 7,822 DuPage County voters have done so. That number is on track to be about 33 percent fewer than the 11,642 registered voters who voted early in the 2008 primary. There is still time to cast early ballots for next week's primary. Concealed Carry Bill Advancing in Springfield

Here is a roundup of some of the latest political news.

A number of state representatives have signed on as co-sponsors of a bill that would legalize the concealed carry of firearms in Illinois, the last state in the nation where some form of carry, concealed or open, is not legal. House Bill 5745 would allow sheriffs in the state’s 102 counties to issue concealed-carry permits, the Illinois Statehouse News has reported. People wanting a permit would have to pay a $65 fee and complete firearms training. No one with a criminal record would be given a permit. To approve this bill would require 71 votes in the House, instead of a simple majority of 60 votes. Because lawmakers decided that a statewide concealed-carry law would pre-empt local laws, the bill would require three-fifths of the chamber …

Today, Tuesday, March 29, is the last day of the grace period for voter registration in DuPage County. Voters can register at the DuPage Election Commission, inside the county administration office at 421 County Farm Road, Wheaton. Early voting will continue from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Elmhurst City Hall, 209 N. York St., through Thursday, March 31. Voters must be registered in DuPage County and present a government-issued photo identification. Election Day is Tuesday, April 5. It is Patch policy nationwide not to endorse because we don't have an editorial board at the local level. The local editors must remain neutral because we report on the candidates. If we, the editors, were then to endorse our favorites, that would be seen as a conflict of interest.
