Illinois Sen. Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) has co-sponsored a bill that would give the DuPage County Board authority to dissolve smaller units of government. The legislation, Senate Bill 494, would affect the county airport authority, county fair and exposition authority and sanitary districts. Current law requires a voter referendum to dissolve these appointed boards and authorities. Cullerton's bill is the first goal of the newly formed DuPage County Caucus, a group of nine Illinois state senators focused on promoting the interests of DuPage County, according to a news release from Sen. A review of the operations of the DuPage County Election Commission has resulted in two commissioners losing their jobs. DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin replaced Jeanne McNamara and Charlotte Mushow with Republican Cathy Ficker Terrill of Elmhurst and Democrat Art Ludwig of West Chicago, according to a Wednesday article in The Daily Herald. The third member of the Election Commission is Rick Carney of Wheaton. Cronin most recently appointed Ficker Terrill interim executive director of the DuPage Housing Authority in the wake of the discovery of that department's financial mismanagement. DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin last week unveiled Phase 1 of a report citing recommendations to improve county agencies that account for nearly $300 million in public funds. “The report represents the very first time our residents will have a full accounting of these entities that collect and spend a significant amount of tax dollars," Cronin said. "This is a landmark report in many ways. Not only do we have access to budget and operational information for the first time, but we will also have a set of recommendations on how to improve the system."
