County Board Candidates Tackle Questions on the Environment, Pensions and More at League Forum

Six of the 10 candidates in Districts 1 and 2 came to Community Bank of Elmhurst Wednesday night to share their views.

About a dozen voters braved the rain Wednesday night to learn a little more about DuPage County Board candidates in Districts 1 and 2. Candidates shared their ideas on such things as the environment, flood control, the DuPage Airport Authority and county consolidation—at least as much as their one-minute-per-question time limit would allow. The forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Elmhurst, also offered an opportunity for a few subtle jabs between candidates. Only two out of the six candidates running in DuPage District 1, Republicans Paul Fichtner of Elmhurst (incumbent) and Sam Tornatore of Roselle, attended the forum at Community Bank of Elmhurst. Absent were Republican Donald Puchalski of Elmhurst (incumbent) and Democrats…

Does anyone know if Linda Painter has a son? I know she has 2 daughters but someone told me she has a son. If she does, why is he never in any of her family photos that she uses in her campaign litature? Thanks for the clarification.   more ›

Letter to the Editor

Letter: Rafael Rivadeneira Congratulates DuPage District 2 Primary Winners

States his support for Noonan, Zannis and DiCianni in the General Election.

Dear Friends: While we didn’t get the results we wanted in Tuesday’s election, I’m still thrilled and humbled by the support and encouragement I received throughout the campaign. The opportunity to run for office in itself is a blessing and something worth celebrating. I also want to congratulate Sean Noonan, Elaine Zannis and Pete DiCianni. I called each of them to congratulate them on their victories. While we were opponents in the primary election, I’m fully behind them in the general election come November. The primary season is a time for Republicans to get our individual messages out, but the general season is a time for us to unite. Although, I’d have loved to have won, this loss doesn’t mean the voice of those fighting to increase …

Patrick O'Shea Continues Campaign after Son's Cocaine Arrest

O'Shea releases a statement saying his family is "deeply saddened" by the arrest.

Patrick O'Shea's campaign organizers are hoping voters will stay focused on his race for Circuit Court Judge rather than the recent news of his son's drug arrest. On Thursday, March 1, around 9:30 p.m., 18-year-old Collin O'Shea was arrested in Lombard for allegedly selling narcotics to another individual, according to Paul Darrah, DuPage County State's Attorney communications manager. Campaign Coordinator and Addison Township Republican Chairman Patrick Durante said O'Shea "is going to continue on with his campaign." Durante would not comment further on the "personal" matter but said he hopes it will not affect the campaign. Patrick O'Shea has served as a DuPage County Board member for more than 20 years. He is now seeking the office of …

It is shameful thing that the public is so foolish to believe that the misfortunes of an 18 year old can somehow be twisted into a judgement of the parents. I know plenty of good parents who did everything right, and weren't able to keep their kids out of trouble. I applaud the comments linking references to the actual background of the candidate, so we can use real information about the man to …   more ›

DuPage County Board Approves Ledonne Appointment to District 2

Ledonne, who was sworn in on Tuesday, will serve through November.

The DuPage County Board unanimously approved the appointment of Michael Ledonne of Lombard to the vacant District 2 seat on Tuesday.   “I am honored to have been chosen to serve on the board and I look forward to serving the great people of DuPage County," Ledonne said. "We have a wonderful opportunity to transform DuPage County into a model of government and example for the entire state of Illinois to emulate. I am ready to face the challenges over the next nine months and look forward to working for DuPage residents who have placed their trust in us."   DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin nominated Ledonne.   “After an open and transparent search, I am confident Michael will provide the kind of leadership needed as we continue to …
