Youngster House-sitting Cats Discovers Burglary

A gun also allegedly spotted near Salt Creek, arrests for DUI and drug paraphernalia, and a fight at York involves police.

A juvenile who was taking care of the cats at a home on the 100 block of North Maple discovered that the home had been burglarized sometime between 2:15 and 4:29 p.m. Oct. 18. The two upstairs bedrooms had been rifled through, and police noticed one of the screens on a basement window had been removed. Several drawers on the second level were open. It was unknown what was missing at the time of the report because the owners were out of town. Police described the offender as a white male, 30 to 40 years old, less than 6 feet tall with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue knit winter cap, a blue quilted jacket and jeans. How do you know if the person breaking in is armed or not? I would think that if you feel threatened in your home during a break in, you have the right to protect yourself and your property. Can some one from the police dept confirm this?   more ›

Elmhurst Police Report DUI Arrests and a Hot Bed on North York

Elmhurst man also arrested for riding his bike with an open beer and a one-hitter.

Steve Fisher, 24, 231 E. Madison, Villa Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of cannabis and improper stopping on the roadway after police found him sleeping in his black Toyota Avalon at the intersection of First and York streets at 2:01 a.m. Sept. 8. He was released on I-bond. Nicholas S. Man is Accused of Harassing Woman He Wanted as His Character Witness in Court

Also, ex-boyfriend makes an unwanted appearance after three years in jail.

A man who is going through a divorce asked a former friend of his family to be his character reference during his child custody proceedings. The former friend declined, saying she does not want to be involved in his divorce. But police said the suspect will not take no for an answer and continues to call and harass her over the issue. The woman filed a police report for harassment on July 20. A resident of the 700 block of South Swain told police that her ex-boyfriend had come to her home without permission at 11 a.m. July 21. She has not had any contact with him in three years because he has been in jail, police said. She also has received several suspicious phone calls over the past week. Police Say DUI Involved in Weekend Motorcycle Crash

Elmhurst police report multiple arrests for DUI, disorderly conduct, drug paraphernalia and warrants.

Giovanni Ochoa, 35, 110 Oak Leaf, Addison, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police said he crashed his black Harley-Davidson 883 at Madison and Swain at 12:41 a.m. July 14. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for his injuries and later released on I-bond. Keith Kogut, 43, 15701 Peggy Lane Apt. 6, Oak Forest, was arrested and charged with DUI after his white Nissan Sentra was involved in an accident at Brush Hill and Commonwealth at 11:42 p.m. July 14. Spruce Apt. 308, Wood Dale, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled over his gray Acura TL for improper lane use, failure to signal, disobeying a stop sign and speeding at York and Grand at 12:46 a.m. May 5. Couple Arrested for Heroin Paraphernalia, Smoldering Kitchen Counter Draws Police Attention

Elmhurst police also report arrests for DUI, domestic battery, trespass and theft.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Lauren Cramer, 29, 840 Wedgewood Court, Buffalo Grove, and Shawn Glowacz, 34, 25748 Willow Spring Road, Mundelein, were arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police pulled over their black Hyundai Sonata at Route 83 and North Avenue at 6:51 p.m. April 24. Police said they had drug paraphernalia used for heroin. Glowacz, the driver, also was charged with speeding. Illegal Burning Justin Gallo, 29, 737 S. York Road, was cited for open burning without a permit after police assisted Elmhurst Fire Department on a call to his home for a possible garage fire at 6:10 p.m. April 24.
