Equitable Education for All: Rewards, Challenges of ELL Program Explored at District 205 Forum Monday

Community is invited; results of this meeting will help set the vision for District 205's English Language Learners program.

A community forum that explores the goals, legal requirements, rewards and challenges of Elmhurst District 205's English Language Learners program will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at the District Administration Center, 162 S. York. Members of the community are invited to learn how other school districts provide ELL services and hear about the experiences others have had with the program in District 205. Board members, administrators, teachers, former ELL students, parents, a professor with an ELL specialty, members of the Superintendent's Advisory Committee and administrators from St. Charles and Woodstock school districts are expected to attend. Lincoln School Referendum, Changes in Activity Bus Fees, Teacher Negotiations Among Topics at Community Forum

Considering the more than 8,000 students in the district, the turnout at a community forum wasn't large Tuesday night, but conversations touched on everything from class size to referendum.

Elmhurst District 205 administrators are in the midst of so many new things—with regard to curriculum, technology, facilities—that an answer to parents' questions Tuesday night often was, "We're working on that right now." District 205 School Board, superintendent and administrators met with dozens of parents in the classrooms of York High School in a casual forum designed to elicit feedback and promote conversation. While this is an annual event, new District 205 Superintendent David Pruneau has said repeatedly that the cornerstone of this administration will be to hear what the community wants and needs from its educators. Parents Invited to District 205 Community Forum Tuesday

Forum provides an opportunity to speak one-on-one with District 205 School Board and administration.

Elmhurst PTA Council will host its annual community forum from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, on the second floor of the York High School academic building, 355 W. St. Charles Road. Residents can gather informally with members of Elmhurst Unit District 205 Board of Education and administration in small-group discussions in Rooms A250, A290 and A294. School Board members, Superintendent Dave Pruneau and members of his administrative cabinet will be available to answer questions, hear concerns and provide feedback.
