Letter: Elect Karen Stuefen to District 205 School Board

Stuefen's business credentials will carry over into public service.

This is a note of recommendation for Karen Stuefen for the Elmhurst District 205 Board of Education.    I have worked with Karen professionally for 15 years and can personally attest to her strength in strategic vision, collaboration and execution.  Karen led Sprint’s Steering Committee which was comprised of chief information officers from Fortune 1,000 companies across the country. She would be a tremendous asset and resource in bringing fresh ideas and facilitating change.      — Gayle L. Wyman, director of sales-Illinois, Sprint Business Market Group

Stuefen's former employer says these traits will serve her well on Elmhurst District 205 Board.

Please accept this enthusiastic endorsement of Karen Stuefen for Elmhurst’s District 205 Board of Education. I have known Karen since 1990. Karen was one of my key employees when I served as vice president and general manager for Sprint Corporation in Rosemont. Over the years Karen has exemplified the highest personal and professional integrity. Her work ethic and ability to achieve results made her an invaluable member of my team. She was one of the first in our organization to pioneer telecommuting, job sharing, flextime and other programs that make it possible for parents to balance work and career. I am confident Karen will represent the Elmhurst …

Mark Mulliner: We Need to Return to Debating the Issues and Not Let Personalities Get in the Way

Mulliner's 7th Ward seat is being challenged by newcomer Dean O'Brien.

What is the primary reason you are running for this office?  I love Elmhurst and I believe that it is the best city in the United States.  I have served the people in my role as alderman and I wish to continue serving them.  I promise one thing, and this is that whenever I vote on any issue, I will continue to do what I have in the past and vote for what I truly believe is in the best interest of Elmhurst. What will be your priority if elected? Provide core and essential city services while controlling the costs for those services. The City of Elmhurst needs to continue to control the costs of government while providing the core functions:
public safety, infrastructure (roads, sewers, water, sidewalks, etc.), economic development to help …

Rachel Kern: Taxpayer Money is Being Mistreated by the Council; Will Vote Against Tax Increases

Kern faces incumbent 6th Ward alderman Steve Morley April 5.

What is the primary reason you are running for this office? I am running because our city is at a crossroads.  We need fresh ideas and fresh faces to maintain the quality of life we enjoy here and to move our city forward into the future.  I want to work to bring tax relief to Elmhurst and get spending under control. We need to address the critical infrastructure issues our city faces, primarily the modernization of our sewer system.  Further, I believe that there has been a lack of accountability, transparency  and attentive listening in city government for too long, and I want to restore these values. What will be your priority if elected? My top priority will be making sure that your voice is heard in City Council.  I will be accessible…

Darlene Heslop: Will Scrutinize Budget to Avoid Tax and Fee Hikes; Supports Changing Timing of Budget Process

Heslop faces two opponents in the race for the 4th Ward.

What is the primary reason you are running for this office? Bill, The economy has devastated many communities, not just Elmhurst. Declining revenues from sales tax has left many budgets facing shortfalls. I have tried to contact the Mayor to discuss the level of clutter and filth that I mentioned above. Since he has yet to respond I will suggest it publicly. Why not create an Elmhurst "Earth Day" Call on all citizens, homeowners and renters alike, to join…   more ›
