Your Guide to Fourth of July Activities In and Around Elmhurst

You'll have to travel outside the city limits for fireworks, but tons of July 4 celebrations will be held a stone's throw away.

It's been many years since Elmhurst has had a fireworks display or parade within the city limits on the Fourth of July, but another Elmhurst tradition continues. Beginning at 7:15 a.m. on July 4, Elmhurst Running Club, in partnership with Community Bank of Elmhurst, will present the eighth annual 4 on the 4th 4-mile run. The race begins just south of Elmhurst College's main gate at 190 S. Prospect Ave. Race Day registration is $30, or sign up in advance for $25. Afterward, Elmhurst will continue its partnership with Bensenville to offer Libertyfest at Redmond Park. And, for those willing to travel to other neighboring towns, there are plenty of holiday events to attend. Libertyfest — Bensenville Following the July 4 parade at 10 a.m., come…

Standoff With Bensenville Shooter Ends Peacefully Tuesday Afternoon

District 205 officials were notified, but Elmhurst students were not in harm's way, police said.

The DuPage County SWAT team was called to secure the area, and there was increased police presence around Conrad Fischer Elementary School and Churchville Middle School in Elmhurst, police said. Principals of those two schools, as well as York High School, were made aware of the situation. Four Bensenville schools near the home were locked …

Because this is Elmhurst Patch, and this website is hyper-local in nature, and the readership is largely made up of Elmhurst residents, and the release was issued by the Elmhurst Police Department and Elmhurst District 205 schools, Wood Dale, Addison and Northlake are not mentioned. And, Melrose Park is really quite a distance from this incident.   more ›
