Generator Stolen from Mariano's Construction Site

Elmhurst police also report attempted break-in at Fitz's Spare Keys, multiple cases of theft and credit card fraud, as well as property damage.

A Coleman 1800 Power Mate generator worth $700 was stolen from the Mariano's Fresh Market construction site, 678 N. York Road, between 5:30 p.m. Jan. 30 and 6:30 a.m. Jan. 31. Someone tried to break into Fitz's Spare Keys, 119 N. York, between 1 and 10 a.m. Jan. 31. The unknown offender attempted to gain entry by forcing a piece of metal into a door's locking mechanism. Police got a call for a retail theft at Jewel-Osco, 153 Schiller, at 2:47 p.m. Jan. 30. The complainant said a man stole eight packages of nasal strips and left the store without paying. He reportedly shoved the complainant on his way out, and left in a vehicle driven by a female. The vehicle was stopped by another Elmhurst officer, but the subject was no longer in the car…

Multiple Burglaries Discovered Within a Short Distance and in a Short Time Period

North Larch, North Walnut and Addison streets targeted over the past few days.

Police are looking into burglaries and attempted burglary in Elmhurst between Thursday, Jan. 17, and Saturday, Jan. 19, and all in the same area of town. The 400 block of North Larch Street was a focal point of activity on Thursday, Jan. 17. Police said that while they were investigating a garage burglary on the street, they were led to a neighboring house that was broken into. And, a vehicle on the block was burglarized later that night. Sometime between 7:45 and 10:40 p.m. Jan. 17, someone broke into a garage and shed on the 400 block of North Larch. The victim returned home and saw a man in his neighbor's back yard. The suspect ran to a dark pickup truck, entered the passenger door, and the vehicle fled the area in an unknown direction…

Several Attempted Burglaries Reported Over the Weekend

Suspicious circumstances, pried doors, an opened safe, but nothing was taken.

Several Elmhurst residents reported to police that attempts had been made to break into their homes over the weekend. At about 6:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, two white men rang the rear doorbell of a home on the 300 block of North Addison. The resident saw them through her blinds trying to turn the door knob. One man was described as about 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a "smushed" face wearing a ball cap. The other was about 6 feet, 1 inch tall with narrow eyes, long sideburns and wearing a knit cap, jean jacket and gloves. Both had "scruffy" facial hair. Suspect Caught with Burglary Tools, Man Pleasures Himself in Jewel Liquor Department

Joseph Lamar, 44, 7413 S. Woodward, Woodridge, was arrested and charged with felony attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools after police patroling the Extended Stay America parking lot, 550 W. Grand Ave., saw him crouching down next to a construction van at 3:02 a.m. Sept. 7. Lamar tried to run away when he saw police, but he was apprehended and taken to DuPage County Jail. A man who police did not identify was issued a no-trespass order after he was seen at Jewel-Osco, 944 S. York Road, at 7:55 p.m. Sept. 10. An employee at the store told police the man had been found masturbating in the liquor department on four or five different occasions over the last several months. Elmhurst Police Report Incidents of Theft, Attempted Burglary and Property Damage

Pry marks found, alarm activated while homeowner was out of town.

A resident of the 400 block of South York Street was contacted by ADT while he was out of town between July 7 and 21. The company told him that the area of coverage was the side door, but police officers checked the house and it was secure. The resident received several more calls from ADT over a period of a couple of days, but he elected not to do anything under the assumption that it was a faulty sensor, police said. When the resident arrived home, he noticed pry marks on the side door. It appeared no one entered the home. A debit card that was inside a purse stolen in Bensenville on July 20 was used at Shell and McDonald's in Elmhurst the next day. A woman who was in line at the register at Jewel, 944 S. Girl Locks Herself in the Bathroom As Men Try to Break into Her Home

One of two burglary attempts over the weekend.

A teen-age girl who was home from school on Friday locked herself in her bathroom after two men attempted to break into her home while her father was at work. The girl, who lives on the 100 block of North Walnut, told police that at about 10:50 a.m., she heard someone ringing the front doorbell and knocking on the door excessively. She looked out the front window and saw a black man in a gray hoodie and a silver SUV parked in front of the house on the street. The girl called her father and locked herself in the bathroom. About five minutes later, she came out of the bathroom and saw the SUV backed into her driveway all the way to the end by the garage. I was driving in Glen Ellyn yesterday and I saw a DuPage Sherriff's car parked on one of the streets and it finally dawned on me that we Elmhurst residents pay taxes towards other law enforcment entitiies, i.e. sheriff and state police. I wonder if they could make the occasional patrol of Elmhurst and if any elected officials in Elmhurst have requested such an option?   more ›

Attempted Burglary on Sunnyside and Multiple Arrests for Alcohol, Battery and Theft Reported

Attempted Burglary A resident of the 600 block of South Sunnyside heard knocking on her back door, then her front doorbell ringing at 1:38 p.m. Feb. 16. Shortly after that, she heard noises coming from her basement. The victim opened up her blinds and saw a white man about 30 years old, wearing gray sweatpants, a gray jacket and a knit hat jump on a bicycle and ride away. She ran out of her house yelling. Elmhurst Residents Discover Burglary, Attempted Burglaries

One home ransacked, and pry marks found on two other homes.

Residential Burglary Someone pried open the rear door of a home on the 500 block of West Utley between 11 a.m. and 2:52 p.m. Aug. 27. Pry marks were found on the door, and the trim was broken. The resident discovered that the bedroom and closet on the second floor had been ransacked. Missing were jewelry items, sunglasses and several bottles of perfume. Police have no suspects. Attempted Burglary A home on the 300 block of South Poplar was found to have pry marks on the back door. The resident told police he noticed the marks on the aluminum molding Aug. 25, but he doesn't know how long they've been there. Attempted Residential Burglary A resident of the 300 block of West Alexander Boulevard told police that a man between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-4-inches tall with medium length blond hair wearing jeans, a blue T-shirt and carrying a black backpack attempted to open her rear sliding glass door at 12:02 p.m. May 25. He stopped when the resident’s Great Dane charged at him. He was only able to push the door open 6 inches due to a bar set in place. The resident came home and discovered her door broken and several pieces of jewelry worth $2,100 missing from her bedroom.
