York Students Celebrate the Finer Things in Life

York Community High School's Fine Arts Week ends with a bang (and a drum roll) with OK Go band member.

Americans are inundated with technology to watch movies, music videos or play their favorite tunes. They’re able to access these creative products at the touch of a mouse or finger, but are never really allowed the time to process their importance. York Community High School hoped to change this as they celebrated Fine Arts Week March 7-11. Students attended various events showcasing students’ art, music and theatre performance during their scheduled periods. They were even privy to the creative process and tips from a member of a well-known band, OK Go’s drummer, Dan Konopka.  Monday kicked off the week-long celebration with plenty of entertainment for students and faculty alike. Seniors—and Seniors—Celebrate Unique Friendship

Students from York High School reveal portraits to senior citizens at Lexington luncheon.

Each framed face reflects years of experience and life. Every smile provides glimpses of exuberant personalities. Each pair of eyes conceal wisdom spanning decades. The portraits of senior citizens from Lexington Square Retirement Community, whether created in acrylic, collage or colored pencil, reveal more than the talent of the artists who created them. They reveal the vibrant lives attached to each of their subjects.  During a luncheon Thursday at York High School, senior students in the advanced placement art class unveiled portraits of senior citizens they had befriended last fall as part of a community outreach program. Art and Music Showcase Features Elmhurst Talent

Several Elmhurst residents will perform or display original works in Villa Park on Friday.

A slew of young talent from Elmhurst, including artists Renee Tranter, Becky Griffith and Elisabeth Hass, and the band Pisces at The Animal Fair, will be featured at an event this Friday, right next door in Villa Park.  The Villa Park Art & Music Showcase features talented artists from the western suburbs whose mediums range from melody and lyrics to the letterpress. Presented by Mathew Bongat and Limelite Entertainment, the showcase aims to bring exposure to local artists and musicians. The showcase will take place from 4 to 10 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Iowa Community Center in Villa Park. The center will be equipped with two stages to ensure continuous music throughout the night.
