Artwork of Elmhurst Student Featured March 6-31 in North Central College Exhibit

Adventures in Wonderland exhibit inspired by music, literature and nature.

Artwork of two North Central College students is featured in the monthlong exhibit, Adventures in Wonderland. Adventures in Wonderland includes ceramics, paintings and mixed-media artwork created by seniors Molly Christine and Angela Block. The exhibit runs March 6-31 in the Meiley-Swallow Hall Gallery, 31 S. Ellsworth St., Naperville. An artist reception will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30; complimentary refreshments will be served. Inspired by music, literature and nature, Adventures in Wonderland is a blend of various art styles that explores the themes of discovery and imagination. Works of Master Printmaker NicolaÌs de JesuÌs on Display at the Frick Center Through Oct. 3

Exhibit is part of the annual Hispanic Heritage Exhibition at Elmhurst College.

The work of NicolaÌs de JesuÌs, an internationally known master printmaker from Mexico whose work speaks to the struggles of indigenous peoples, will be featured in Elmhurst College’s annual Hispanic Heritage Exhibition at the Frick Center through Oct. 3. De JesuÌs traveled from his home in Chiapas, Mexico, to attend the opening reception for his exhibition Thursday, Sept. 20. De JesuÌs is a full-blooded Nahua Indian who descends from a long line of artisans. He is a defender of the rights of indigenous peoples, and the themes of struggle and celebration constantly inform his work. Many of his etchings feature skeletons, or calaveras, playing out the human comedy. This form of social satire dates back to the 19th century and was made …

African-American Art Exhibit Opens Today at Elmhurst College

Exhibit is part of the celebration of Black History Month in February.

As a vital piece of its annual Celebration of Black History, Elmhurst College will present an exhibition of work from the personal art collection of Patric McCoy. McCoy’s vast collection features hundreds of works of art by contemporary African American artists. He will exhibit nearly 50 pieces in many media beginning this month. It is the first time any portion of his collection has been displayed for the general public. The show, “A Diaspora Rhythm,” will run from Jan. 23 to Feb. 18 in the Founders Lounge of the College’s Frick Center, 190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst. A reception will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, and will include a gallery talk given by Patric McCoy at 5 p.m. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and …

Art Reflects Life at Elmhurst College Exhibit

These high school artists combine their innate talent with pure motivation.

York High School sophomore Trisha Rhea wants to use her artistic talent to help children in therapy. York senior Connor Hughes wants to go into graphic art, although his current work involves a sympathetic look at the common, working man. The work of these student artists, along with that of scores of other students from schools all over the area, is on display through Wednesday at the Frick Center at Elmhurst College. Works in acrylic, oils, watercolor, photography, drawing and mixed media are featured.  Students at York had their work on display at the school for a week prior to the Elmhurst College exhibit.
