U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley Appointed to Committee That Approves Federal Spending Levels

Quigley's 5th District includes almost all of Elmhurst.

U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-5) on Jan. 4 was appointed by the Democratic Caucus to the House Committee on Appropriations, which is responsible for approving the federal government’s annual spending levels for nearly all federal programs. Mike Quigley Elected Regional Whip by Democratic Colleagues

Whips assist Democratic leaders in gaining support for policy positions.

U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (5th District) was elected regional whip by members of the Democratic Caucus. He will be the only member of the Illinois delegation to serve in this role when the 113th Congress begins in January. “It is an honor to have the confidence and support of my colleagues as I take on new leadership responsibilities as regional whip,” Quigley said. “As Congress works to solve the complex issues ahead, I am proud to be in a position to work closer with Democratic leaders and the members of our Midwest region.” Quigley will be one of two whips for Region 4, which includes the 15 Democratic members in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas.  Rep. Quigley Glides to Easy Win in the Fifth Congressional District

He promises in Daily Herald article to be accessible to his "new constituents."

U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Chicago), will retain his 5th District seat after a convincing win in Tuesday's General Election over Republican candidate Dan Schmitt and Green Party candidate Nancy Wade. Quigley got about 70 percent of the vote Tuesday from residents in the 5th District, which include almost all of Elmhurst, and parts of Bensenville,  Hinsdale, Western Springs, Oakbrook Terrace and other communities stretching all the way to the lakeshore. Quigley has represented the district since 2009. He delivered a message to his "new consituents" in this Daily Herald article.
