Edison Elementary School

Edison Elementary School, located just north of Sandburg Middle School, was nominated by the Illinois State Board ofMore Education for the U.S. Department of Education's Blue Ribbon Schools status based on curriculum, instruction, professional development, school leadership and school vision. Five years of data was submitted for the application. Edison students typically achieve grades in the top 10th percentile on state standardized tests. 
Emerson Elementary School

Emerson Elementary School, like many other schools in District 205, is welcoming several new teachers this year,More including new second- and third-grade teachers, and a new school psychologist.

Students at Emerson also will start the year with a new outdoor classroom. Pavers and bricks were installed, bushes were planted to buffer the classroom from neighbors, a walkway connects to a patio area and a pond was constructed so the first-graders will have a place to release their tadpoles once they become frogs.

In 2009, 92-percent of students met or exceeded state standards on standardized tests in reading, math and science at Emerson.

Sandburg Middle School

Sandburg Middle School is located at the eastern gateway to Elmhurst on St. Charles Road. Originally called ElmhurstMore Junior High School, Sandburg was renamed in 1960 to honor the American writer Carl Sandburg, who lived on York Street from 1919 to 1930. Sandburg spoke at the dedication of the school in 1960. Principal Amy Read leads the students, 94 percent of whom met or exceeded state testing standards in 2008-09.
