With the dual elected duty restriction heading to a citywide vote this November, it is also time to consider alternative leadership and vision for our community.
The issue of dual elected duty restriction belongs on the ballot this November for all Elmhurst voters to decide.
“I therefore conclude that the city could adopt an ordinance to prohibit its elected officials from holding any other elected office, but only if such an ordinance was authorized by referendum.”
Monday's Finance Committee meeting, headed by Vice Chairman York with aldermen Mulliner and Levin in attendance, was productive and encouraging.
Our constitutional right to define the qualification of elected officials is now controlled by Alderman Steve Hipskind, the Finance Committee Chairman, and Co-Chairman Alderman Kevin York.
Elmhurst residents who live north of the Prairie Path will have no say or vote on the dual elected duty controversy without a full city referendum.
I respectfully ask the Honorable Mayor DiCianni to support an up or down referendum on dual elected duty, which is in line with his campaign’s premise of, “Let the voters decide”.
It’s been said that the making of laws is like the making of sausages: the less you know about the process the more you respect the result. Dual elected duty is nothing more than spoiled sausage.
As Citizens of Elmhurst, we should recognize and remember the sacrifices made to give us a system of fair representative government and take action to ensure it is preserved for everyone.
