Another nice Elmhurst family that is going to go through hell because of what their kids did. IRead More can't believe it. My boys played baseball with them and they had everything going for them. No excuses but I feel sorry for the parents who I am sure knew nothing about this.

People who do that are just jerks and some can well afford filet mignon with a side of caviar forRead More every meal. I was an in- store demonstrator for many years and to mix things up, because the job was boring, I would tell people reaching for a sample that they were welcome to take one but they had to buy the item advertised. They'd look at me and at the two-for-five-bucks item I was selling and act like I was trying to rob them. Hello, that's why we're there. We're not there solely to hand out pieces of lunchmeat on 'picks to strangers.

A sad commentary on the state of our society; if someone's hungry - feed 'em. But - no, we've plentyRead More to spend on rebuilding the infrastructure of Iraq, to send Congress on junkets all over the world [notably sunny places when it's winter here] and to give all and sundry tax 'incentives' to big-business [like oil companies]; but, if a man is driven - for whatever reason{s}, to eat too many 'free' samples - call the police and lock him up. With the Easter/Passover season here, I'd have to ask: Where's the Judeo-Christian decency in America today? Oh yeah, that and our civil rights and liberties went up in smoke following the passage of the Patriot Act, its re-passage and a Supreme Court that thinks that 'corporations are people too.' Shame on us -

Billy Joel - I never said the police should ignore this. I appreciate what the Elmhurst police doRead More for our community but at 11:45 on a Friday night this may have been able to be handled differently so police officers don't have to be in the station booking a couple of middle aged men and filling out arrest reports. Also if they were drunk, then one or both would have been charged with Public Intoxication too.

Great report!!! I do enjoy the inclusion of addresses so I can google view it and take anRead More appropriate "round-about" when coming into the proximity of yr assailant. This particular property appears to have numerous trinkets, a few benches, some overgrown shrubbery, and a fence circa 1952. I'm a bit confused though, were there two dogs and who was whistling?

The LA Times recently posted an article that shows that the Obama administration, the Illegal AlienRead More lobby, and the major media outlets have been in collusion to depict the "high" deportation numbers. The exact opposite is true since the beginning of the current President's policy. Interior deportation has and will be lower than 1973 rates. This is leading towards more people overstaying their visas and currently, more Illegal Alien minors crossing the border. Obama has just recently instructed border patrol to not turn back those Illegal Aliens on record as having entered illegally as priors, but to let them pass IF they don't have a major criminal record. After the first Illegal Entry, it a felony each time thereafter. http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-obama-deportations-20140402,0,545192,full.story#axzz2xkzioeHR

The building is no longer as safe as it once was! The garage doors and the side entrance to theRead More lobby from the parking garage is mostly ALWAYS open giving anyone access to the elevators that go to all the floors of the building. Every time something is brought up with any issues management says it's up to the residents to call the police as they don't get involved in any of those matters.. This is a sad way for a building to be run.
Thomas Maynard April 9, 2014 at 12:25 pm
Installing a good Dead Bolt lock and maybe some motion detectors in your apartment would be a stepRead More in the right direction.....The motion detectors could be just hooked to an audio alarm like a car alarm, thus avoiding costly monitoring charges. Being a home owner and owning a dog, and what they leave around the yard, is enough to be a deterrent to most thieves. The story sounds like it was a friend or someone who knew the painting was there..

So sad the Elmhurst Place Apartments did not care and made excuses for the whole situation. SomeRead More more top customer service from Linda in the front office. The building needs someone to work in the office who actually cares about their job. She is nothing more than a gossip who seems to enjoy getting the tenants into trouble. Maybe the building would be a good place to live if the front office took care of their problems instead of blowing everything off by saying "well Charlie's not going to like to hear that." Seems to me like they could use someone in the office with some modern office skills, such as the ability to know how to turn a computer on. The leases are still 3 copy hand typed. With updated office skills there would be more time to concentrate on the poor or lack of customer service.

This country has far too many lawyers. They are little more than parasites who suck the life bloodRead More out of the economy, while providing little or no value. Unfortunately, they have a strangle hold on our political system, so legal reform is a dream that will probably never be realized.

Don't get any ideas about trying that crap at WalMart. Every week there's a list published in theRead More local paper of all the shoplifting and theft charges filed by our local Wally World. Their philosophy is, involve the cops in all instances. They prosecute every single case.

We need more police in our communities. I'd like to see the police work these major arteries fromRead More chicago into the suburbs much harder, pulling over more cars for the simplest of potential violations. I'd like to see road blocks and everything, once this type of stuff starts spilling into the suburbs it can destroy neighborhoods and communities if residents don't demand it stop. The police know what discretion is, and when its a little old lady from around town who doesn't have a vehicle sticker, big deal, but when you get teenagers or gang bangers with open alcohol, or heroin junkies, a bunch of 3rd world minorities driving through an affluent neighborhood, you check them hard and let them know we dont like their scum around here, and nail them for every kind of potential violation under the sun. this is what we pay the officers for, this is police protection, knowing who is driving through your communities and walking through them at night.

This type of scum does not belong in DuPage County. The City Councils and Citizens shouldRead More organize to identify individuals like this and problem areas in the city/village/or town, and work to improve, and beautify the area. I as a resident of this area being of European descent, would prefer to maintain a mono-culture in this area, rather than allowing minorities, immigrants, and low class multicultural trash to come in and grind the area down into a ghetto. People need to stand up and start calling the police more often when they see people like this that don't look like they belong in the neighborhood, so police can investigate and let them know we do not want trash whether they are black mexican arab in our communities and neighborhoods.

Have nothing against BWW but do have issues with all the spoiled ,bratty, and unsupervised kids andRead More teenagers that have taken over the "Fountain" area. They are rude to seniors and are contributing little to nothing to the businesses in the downtown area. Once they are chased out by police they hit the Schiller parking deck and then end up back in the Fountain area. Whatever happened to curfew???? I, being a Senior, do not no longer come downtown after 5 pm. No wonder there are so many empty storefronts downtown now. I used to see police walking the downtown area and not let kids loiter but no longer see that.
Faust April 8, 2014 at 12:50 pm
Wait a minute. By merely existing, the kids are automatically lumped into the "spoiled andRead More bratty" category? I'm curious to how are they offending anyone, other than taking up space, laughing, having fun, and bringing a much needed spark to an otherwise dreary area. I'd be shocked if they are rude to anyone, unless you think having a fun time amounts to that. What are they doing to offend you...barking, swearing, getting in your way, being silly? If it's more than the usual immature things that kids do, than you need to contact a police offer and file a criminal complaint. I have a feeling that would be ironically, a waste of our tax money though....chasing after frivolous things. I think you'd be surprised how "being spoiled and bratty" is a part of the process of growing up. Those same kids will one day make quite a success out of themselves...or better yet, inherit some of their parents dough :0 Either way, it's what kids do. Take some initiative...ask a kid to hold the door for you, or escort you across the street. It takes a community, ya' know. This is one of those situations where you have to be thankful for what you wish for. Spend an evening downtown CHI or some other seedy places, and you'll be lucky to avoid a random mob attack or a crowd pleasing neighborhood mugging. I imagine neither of those are happening in downtown Elmhurst. I'll say this....good thing everyone can relate to things becoming more difficult, time consuming and annoying. As god would have it, we are all aging at the same time. But worrying about the kids downtown, probably isn't worth a minute of anyone's time. Plus, who's going to consume all those empty calories at the 32 ice cream shops on York, now that the Hot Dog lady is getting the Caputz.

This is just a poor, dumb white kid, trying to probably meet women and was dealing with snobby richRead More elmhurst kids who are quick to act tough infront of women and friends. so he made a bad judgement call? what happened to discretion elmhurst, this guy will be a felon for life, no job, no way of making it in life because he did something stupid. I dont know all the details of the case but this is what i read from the story. I think 5 years intensive probation and a Class A misdemeanor would be fair. Hes obviously not a gang member, and look at Berkley and Hillside, can you blame this kid for wanting to be over here. Id give him a pass, he probably already learned his lesson.
