Let them kill each other? What about the one's who don't die and need millions in healthcare for theRead More rest of their life? Who pays for that? All of us! Stop the violence and ignorance!

Who's kids are doing the shooting? Theirs! Parents cry about losing love ones yet are you parentsRead More watching over your own kids? Do they believe bad kids are being Bused into the City of Chicago to shoot people??? Parents where are you kids right now, where are they at night? Watch your KIDS it's up to you to teach them right from wrong NOT the police!

Stop the revolving door of justice(nonjustice!)!! Once they are involved in a crime involving a gun,Read More they should be sentenced to Hard Labor.. That's right, just like the Old Days!! No more of this crap where they lay around and get free room and board! Put them out in chain gangs and let them work! Screw the bleeding hearts who want to be nice to felons! Most of these people are hardened criminals..once again, if you do the crime, you do the time..But, now make it Hard Time that may sway them to straighten up!!

You should be ashamed of yourself for writing such garbage. The case was never "cracked"!Read More How did it it get there? Who put it there? Those are the questions that need to answered. EPD should be so embarrassed, my 5 year can google better than these idiots. And btw, you "solve" cases you idiot. You don't "crack" them. Source: Dwight K Shrute.

So there are a lot of people complaining the police don’t do enough and you want them toRead More figure out “How did it get there? Who put it there?” Those are the questions that need to be answered. They tracked down the owner and he wants nothing to do with it, end of story, there is no victim in the case so why would the police want to waste their time with those idiotic questions. Do you really think that that case was a high priority on their list of crimes? I am surprised that they even took the time to investigate it.

What are the police doing? Do you know how big Elmhurst for them to patrol? How many officers areRead More there patrolling at any given time, now that is the question? Do you think they have to answer calls, respond to accidents, family fights, etc. It is funny, reading some of these postings, unlocked doors, no alarms, alarms not set, this ain’t Mayberry anymore people. I have an alarm, plus I put a video system in that I can check from my smart phone or Ipad. I work too hard for someone to break in and take things. It is about time we all take part in protecting ourselves, we can’t 100% rely on the government to do everything for us.

I've lived in Elmhrst for a very long time, and it's just within the last few years that myRead More neighbors and I have had to lock things down as if we lived on the West side of Chicago. This is pathetic! The Elmhurst Police Department must make this a very dangerous place for thieves and thugs to do their business. The bad guys need to be harassed, arrested, and put in the slammer. Residents should not have to be armed and ready to protect their family and property..........that's why we are paying these exorbident property taxes. Elmhurst Police, please chase the bad guys out of our town.
Leo July 20, 2014 at 06:44 pm
I too have lived in Elmhurst a long long time & have seen then crime trend shift. My friend whoRead More is a Chicago Police officer said that then a Mayor Daley wanted to push the trouble from the city out to the suburb & succeeded by tearing down the housing projects and displacing everyone, thus crime spikes in the suburbs. Look what happened to Houston & Dallas after Katrina, the criminals from New Orleans were displaced there and crime skyrocketed. Now you want the police to harass these "criminals", do u think the police have to worry about the ACLU & other agencies. Did you know that the police have to document every stop of the race of the individuals, that is a great tool for lawsuits. The tax rate is low in Elmhurst, just the housing values is high. Me Independence why don't you go for a ride a long and see what these guys really do, I do and it is pathetic what the average patrolman has to do daily and put up with, I did a ride a long and won't ever bad mouth the police again. These guys really do take it personally when crime occurs. A lot of officers are living in town and take pride in protecting "their" town.

Correction to above- I see it was last Thursday- but with that said, still minimal info. I have seemRead More more police presence as of late in South Elmhurst, specifically York/Butterfield area. Not sure if it's due to recent 'tagging' that's been going on. We've all got to take ownership of our neighborhoods and report suspicious persons / actions. The police cannot be everywhere.
Magpie-eye July 17, 2014 at 02:21 pm
Hey, Independence, where were you about a month ago with all the cheap yucks being made at EPD'sRead More expense for stopping cyclists taking the early morning air in suspicious manners? They were being pro-active at 2:30 am and - when we weren't collectively being referred to as 'Mayberry', people were sneering because the perp(s) in question were African American. When I was ill, I spent a LOT of time staring out my window and was astounded at how oblivious and trusting my neighbors are. Collectively, we are ripe for the picking. Like Laura said, it starts with the residents. Observe. Phone it in.
